Hello again, only me...... where do i start.... as u all know lewis is waiting 4 heart surgery therefore he dont take much off a btl. (around 20-25mls) then the rest is topped up via a nasal tube.. The problem that ive got now n have had for 4days now is that Lewis wont even have the bottle in his mouth, he's gagging as soon as the teat goes in his mouth, he very rarely as a dummy now too... ok so ur gona say just tube feed him until his op is over n done with but the thing is.... i find it impossible 2 assperate (sp) with there bein no milk in his tummy...its really upsetting me at the moment as i feel that im doin nothing as a mommy only things that a nurse would b doin..... i hope u understand what i mean and i really would b greatful 4 any advice u can once again pass my way... Thanks Tina xxx
Holly has always been a bugger to get an asparate off.
We were told things like lie her on her side and try it, or put air in at first, sometimes it can stick to the wall of the stomach.
Do you pass the tube???
As long as you are comfortable its in there you can always try just 5ml of water slowly down the tubey, the test the acidity when you brng it back.
Holly went the same way hunni, the only thing I can advise is start baby rices as soon as he is able. Sucking helps to strenghten the mouth muscles, and if he is not doing that then weaning will be very difficult. At least with a teeny bit of baby rice he has got to move it around his mouth, thus working muscles
Just wanted to send a big hug your way and say it does get easier, what you're saying reminds me alot of when my Harry was little. As Rilith mentioned already, I remember the nurses told me to use the syringe to just put a little air in the tube and then withdraw it a couple of times - this can sometimes work if there's an air bubble - but you prob already know this. Also, did the hospital give you some PH paper (urrm, think that's what it's called) so that failing everything else you can do what Rilith has said and test it's in the right place with some water?? Hope you're having a bit more luck today, let us know how things are going.

Hiya.... he's having a lil bottle....10ml maybe 20 but he gaggs alot. the tube must b so irratating....can i aske any of u that have been thru this (heart op)... did ur Lo's come home with the tube and how long was it b4 it was removed? x
Harry had an ng tube on and off until he was about 6 mths (I think, seems ages ago now), it may have been a bit longer. But his heart surgery was different to Lewis (closure of PDA + repair of aorta) and he didn't have his surgery until he was about 5 mths old because he was so poorly. They introduced reflux meds to Harry when he was 3 mths old and that made a dramatic difference, so his ng tube was needed because of a combination of reflux + re-occurring heart failure. They're all different but I'm sure the heart surgery will make a huge difference to your little man. Good to hear he is taking some milk, even if it's only a little bit for now. xx
Grace was off the tube before they would let her out of hospital too, thank god for that I dont think I could have managed, your doing so well coping with it, well done. Hopefully it will all be sorted once he has his surgery xxxx
