finally after poor charlie having diarrhear (sp) for 4 months the gp has referred him to a paed gastro enterologist, we tried gluten free diet and dairy free diet but he still had it originally the gp said it was toddler diarrhear but he has lost 6 ounces in weight not alot but as he only weighs 23lb at nearly 4 years old he said he cant afford to lose any,and the toddler diarrhear should last a couple of months at the longest. So we have fingers crossed that the paed can help .

Great news, but I can't believe noone said anything before or did anything.
Hopefully it won't take too long to come through, 2 weeks tops then get on the phone and pester the life out of them, till they give you an appointment to get rid of you. I have found its the only way
Good Luck!

i have been on to them already they hope to see him really quickly ! i think his gp got so fed up with me taking him every week that he has only dun it to get me off his back lol. all this time they put it down to toddler diarrhear (sp) i have never heard of this before i mean i have 6 kids and still not heard of it but apparently it is a condition,as i pointed out to gp charlie is not a toddler he is nearly 4 although he is smaller than a toddler, i would class a toddler at aged 12-18 months ish !does anyone agree ?

Yes I agree with you, Charlie is not a toddler at nearly 4, i always think of a toddler as 18mths to 2ish. I;ve never heard of toddler diarreah (sp) either! Glad they are finally listening to you at long last, but I think its terrible that Charlie has had to put up with it this long, hopefully he will put a bit of weight on when it gets sorted. Take care xx

well we had our appointment today, and guess what, it is toddler diarrhear(sp) ,it can last up to 2 years ,and it has all the symptoms of coeliacs but without huge weight loss. The GP's scales must have been wrong cos my not so little man now weighs 24lb 15 ounces ! The paed is going to write to school and tell them and explain that he doesn't need to be excluded from nursery cos it isn't a bug and it's not catching. charlie has also been suffering quite badly again with reflux ,the gp gave him gaviscon but it made no difference so the paed put him on omeprazol He also said that babes n kiddies with reflux also suffer with bad sleeping which charlie has been doing so hopefully this will help, but he added that kids with DS are notorious for having sleep problems !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! charlie's old paed has retired and we now have a new one and guess what ,he has a son with DS aged 9 and was fairly fluent in makaton so he was signing away with charlie which was great ,cos i never really see him signing with other people i was so proud xxxxxxxx

Brilliant news shell, and a bit of weight gain for charlie. Sounds like your new paed will be perfect, at least he will have experienced most of the things that we have and will hopefully be more help.
Glad charlie can return to nursery too xx

Thats great news, sounds like the meds are working a treat already, Charlie will be piling the weight on in no time. The new paed sounds great too xx
Can I just ask about the toddler diarreah(sp), apart from the obvious are there any other symptoms. Just asking as George has been having horrendous nappies for about 2 weeks now, it doesn't seem to be bothering him but he was always constipated and now he;s the complete opposite. Is toddler diarreah a common thing in ds? Thanks x

without sounding to gross there is undigested food in it ! very smelly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he only does 1 or 2 a aday but like george he has always been really constipated.they dont lose weight and are otherwise healthy. Some days he hasn't done any it's just the consistency of it and the horrendous smell, oh and they can do them in the night while they are asleep, which apparently doesn't normally happen except in newborns love shell, charlie and jasmin xxxxxxxxxxx
