Hi,My name is Paula,i'm 33 from west midlands. I am 16+5 with babba #7. I got the link for this site through bounty. I had the triple test just over a week ago and kinda had a funny feelin that i would get a letter from the hospital, well the letter came saying that i had a risk of 1 in 210 of having a child with DS....bump is a pink one btw (had a gender scan through babybond) My appointment with the hospital to discuss my triple test results is on wednesday 5th march 08. Me and hubby have decided not to have the amnio as what ever the outcome our baby will still be wanted. What kind of thing can i expect at the appointment even though we are refusing amnio?

Hi Paula. If you have chosen not to have the amnio, your detailed scan at 20 weeks can generally give a good idea of whether or not the baby has Downs. There are lots of soft markers / indicators that are known to signify Downs such as thickening around the back of the neck, soft marks on the bowel area. The synographer will look for any signs if you explain the results. Of course nothing is conclusive either way without the amnio. I think 1 in 210 is border line as 1 in 250 or lower is classed as high risk. I expect that they will offer you some information about Downs should you want to do some research ahead of your little girl's arrival. My advice would be that as you have already clearly made your decision, try to enjoy the rest of the pregnancy and don't let the worry or uncertainty affect you too much. Whatever happens I'm sure your little girl will be beautiful and loved and made welcome into your family... big family too.... is this really number 7? lol
Take care, Lucy x

Hi Paula Your triple test results are only just in the at risk, even so I know its worrying. My results were 1:87, I declined the amnio and they said I could have the most experienced sonographer to do a marker scan. The scan revealed no downs syndrome markers whatsoever, and was told it would be very unlikely that my baby would have ds. I don't wish to scare you by saying that. But the amnio is the only way to know for sure. I hope eveything goes well for you. By the way Im karen and my daughter Lucy is 6 months old, she is an absolutly adorable baby and i cannot imagine life without her

hi paula, and welcome to ufd, Im Sarah and i am mummy to Charli Mai, my tripple test came back 1:132, we decided to have the amnio as we wanted to know 100% and felt we could not carry on not knowing, although after we realised that we would not of done anything either way, we had a detailed scan which told us Charli had a few soft markers and that she had a heart condition. Im pg with our second little girl due in 6wks, we did not have the tripple this time as we had already decided that we did not want a amnio as we wanted another child no matter what. Im pleased you have found this site, we are all very friendly and are here if you need advice or just to chat, look forward to hearing from you again soon, good luck with your appointment x x

Hi, I'm Max and I have Caleb who is 16 months. I didn't know about the DS before he was born and no soft markers showed up on the scans. If (and hopefully when) I have another I wouldn't have invasive testing but would make sure they scanned GODD AND PROPER coz I'm not scared of DS just the added problems like heart issues that can come with it. Caleb didn't have any heart probs so I am very lucky!!! Welcome to the site and do let us know either way when you have your baby.

Hi Im Shirley mum to Grace who is 15 months, Crongratulations on the pregnancy firstly, you must be so excited!!! I had no tests when I was carrying grace apart from my scans, there were no markers for downs syndrome visible except for her heart condition which was not picked up in the scans until 35 weeks. Do whatever you feel is right for you, either way it sounds like you have made up your mind. Keep us up to date on your progress and good luck for today, hope to be chatting to you soon
Shirley xx

Thank you all for the big welcome....yeah lucy it is really #7 lol. My appointment at the hospital was a complete waste of time, the M/W acted like me and hubby had wasted her time and couldnt get rid of us quick enough, she might aswell have said if your not having the amnio, why are you even here?....she then said i wouldn't get no results by scanning and the only way to tell is to have the amnio!!....(well ok in some cases she was right) but talk about pressure lol....She said the only way i will know is when babba is born, like i am gonig to worry about it for the next five months. I am not worrying or am i going to go through the next 20 weeks thinking what if and getting stressed,If i wanted to know or was gonna get worked up over it i would have had the amnio...i know that no matter what the outcome our daughter will be special just because she is ours I too am so glad i found this site, you all seem very welcoming, thank you.

Just wanted to say hi from me too I'm mum to Sam who is 7 years old and Harrison who is nearly 4 years old and has down syndrome. Congratulations on your pregnancy, sorry to hear the midwife wasn't very supportive but you sound like you haven't let that bother you. Like you said, your baby will be special whatever the outcome. Take care x
