im new to all this computer stuff its taken me ages to get this far......i have 4 kids the youngest 4 with ds before he was born i was told i was having a girl whilst i was having him they commented on how strong 'her' heart was THEN i gave birth to a boy was told he had downs and needed to be rushed to a childrens hospital for heart surgery which finally took place at 6 weeks old i didnt have time to worry about the fact he had ds .. i always said he can live with downs he would never live with the damage he had to his heart...NOW.. i wish i could find where he keeps his batteries he is always on the go but i would never change him

Wow, what a story!!
Hi, I'm Jo, I also have 4 kids, 3 girls, and 1 boy, he is my youngests at 1, and My girls are 10, 8, and 2. My 2 year old Lisa has downs, we didn't know before we had her, in fact she was 6 days old before we were told, so bit of a shocker at the time, but didn't take long to get over it, well, she's just soo content and adorable!
Look forward to getting to know you and your family, and welcome aboard!

Hello and Welcome to UFD. I have 3 children and PG with number 4. 2 boys aged 8 & 6 (well will be soon anyway) and Holly who is nearly 2. Holly is the one with DS and also has heart problems. We knew very early on in the PG that she had Downs. Our full story is in Rilith Therapy section

thanks jojo he takes after his mum...ha ha ....can you tell he is a bit of a poser? thats my cory he is 4 he is a bright as a button but has very little speech so we use makaton to allow him to communicate with his peers and my-self he goes to a special nursery and they are fantastic there...for cory and me... by the look of your picture you have 2 very willing helpers [ 2 mini mums!!]

Yes, I certainly do!
I must change my signature pic, that one was nearly a year ago now!
Lol, yes I can see he's a bit of a poser, but then aren't all men?? pmsl!
We're just starting on the language side of things with Lisa, up until now, we've mainly been working on her motor skills, but as she's walking now, we're going to spend more time this year on signing.
She knows a few, especially dinner, which we use for all her meals. I went out the other day, and my friend had fed her whilst I was out. When I came in, she started signing for food....thinking I didn't know she had already been fed, (she can be a bit of a piggy when she wants to lol). Well, she got another yoghurt out of it anyway lol!

you mention the food thing jojo , my cory can eat and eat he never seems to feel fall. if i put a dinner down the size of his dads (i havent) he would try and clear the lot...i have just been told tomonitor his food and basically only feed him at meal times.. no inbetween snacks..which is now impossible as he knows if he moves the chair to the fridge he can get whatever he wants...my house is becoming a prison with all the locks and chains and gates everywhere. your girls will enjoy learning the makaton my 2 did and they then passed it on to their mates and they sign between their selfs at school they have invented a few to. have you been on a course yet to learn the signs.. i have done 2 and i am waiting to do a enhancement course(gets me out the house). if cory does get his speech with all the signing he knows he will be able to communicate with others in later life that cant speak... the men and posing bit is right though ...cory failed a basic hearing test and had to go to hospital for a more thorough one which came back clear (thank goodness)the doctor couldnt understand what was wrong to which i responded ...hes a typical bloke just hears what he wants to...doc wasnt impressed it was a man lol rambled on enough now better go feed the gang speak soon

Hi Tracy, no don't mind you asking at all. George had a complete AVSD, he's doing great now just got some leakage to the valve but they said its not causing him any problems at the moment. What did Cory have? Someone else said recently that George was a member of the zipper club too! Can I ask a question too about the scar? Is Cory's alot thicker at the top and has he got any little spots on the scar that never go away x

claire, its great to hear everythings going well with george...corys scar is slightly thicker at the top as for the red spots if i remember correctly he did have a couple like little red moles but they have faded he still has little white scars behind his ear and on his groin where he had tubes and stuff attached.he had AVSD as well but he was 6 weeks old and spent his first 3 months in hospital . they were gonna fit a perminate pacemaker as well as the when they turned the temporary one off he had no heart beat but the night before his second op was gonna happen they done last minute checks and i got a call from the hospital saying they were gonna cancel the op i was beside me self with worry thinking something was wrong then they said his heart had kicked in and no need for a pacemaker..for how hypo he is now i dread to think how hypo he would of been with added batteries...lol..he is not on any meds now what about george? and his check ups are now 18 months apart they are that pleased..he has only had 1 chest infection which people are surprised about as they are prone to them and where he has had so many needles and stuff when he goes for jabs he just holds his arm out its me that does the panicking..ha ha

Hi tracy. I know what you mean about the food thing. My grandson Brodie is a BIG food lover too! The first signs he learnt were food signs and if I say no he can't have one thing he goes through all the foods he knows hoping I'll say yes to one of them!
His mums just had twins and we were only saying today we wonder if the twins will love their food as much as Brodie!
Welcome to the site by the way and your Cory looks lovely, a right little character I'll bet! xx

Tracy, i love the wig lol. Thanks for info about Cory's scar, hopefully the little spots George has will fade too. That must have been a relief for you about the pacemaker, I was dreading that happening to George. He's not well at the mo, was given antibiotics last monday for a chest infection but he seems worse than last week now, off his food and even refused his bottle of milk last night which is not like him at all. Going back to the docs tomorrow. Those of you that say that your kids will eat and eat, were their thyroid checks ok? Normally George will eat well, especially loves any finger foods, but he's having his thyroid tests repeated in September as they think his thyroid is slowing down - just a bit concerned about his weight going up too much x

hey claire , hope george is ok ... about the thyroid test and eating cory has had his tested a few times now and have always come back fine thats why the doc and health visitor just told me to monitor the intake and thankfully he has not got a weight issue..thats my department maybe i should get mine tested..lol

lol Tracy, was thinking the same about me - if george gets meds to speed his thyroid up do you think it would work on me? Good news that Cory's was ok, I think its nice to see kids with a healthy appetite. Have you seen the pictures in the gallery of George's 1st birthday - he was enjoying a piece of birthday cake! x
