Hi
I think is a really important week for all of us. Last year I used the week, not to fundraise for the Down's Syndrome Association, but for the agencies who were directly involved during Cai's first 12 months.
We raised money for the Special Care Baby Unit (Cai was prem and staff there helped me through the diagnosis as well as shock of early labour), the therapists from the local hospital and the local Down's Syndrome support group.
It was all done on the back of the week and in total I raised £2,500. I charged people admission to my 30th birthday party (during that week) and organised raffles, fun days etc at work.
I will be doing something this year, but likely to be on a smaller scale. I do intend to fundraise for the DSA but at the moment feel it important to fundraise for those who work with Cai directly.
I would honestly recommend everybody does something that week - it was great fun and I do believe I was able to paint a brighter picture than people envisaged about life with my little boy.
If you do decide to tackle anything, good luck!
