Just got a letter awarding Caleb HIGHEST rate DLA - apparently highest because he has night terrors at times! Otherwise it would have been middle. They said that as I got the form in a day late (post fault not mine) I don't get the backdated bit though!
This means I can get carers Al and can afford to give up work!
YAY!

Karen apply now!!!! But do not fill form in on your own, get help from a portage or social work or health visitor
Remember the 15 minute rule if you do something it takes more than 15 minutes.

Yes Karen I was told not to apply and wish I had earlier! Get LOTS of help filling it in though - I had to get all the different therapists to say how much they were seeing Caleb (though they "tactfully" forgot to mention how well he's actually doing - so it sounds like he's having alot more care than he actually needs) You have to really concentrate on the difficulties - extra appointments/ use of signs/ early intervention! Caleb is doing exceptionally well but we are putting tons of work into his deveopment so we went from that angle! Good luck!

Thats brilliant news Max - a mum at cdc didn't get hers backdated so she phoned them up to complain and ended up getting it backdated for three months. Have you phoned them up? xx
Karen, when you phone they put that date on the form then I think its 6 weeks that you've got to fill it in but they will backdate it to the date that you requested the form. Make sure you ask for the Childrens form as I got sent the adult one (twice in the end). I remember reading a help sheet from the dsa about filling in the forms and there was a bit on there about dry skin, make sure you say that you have to moisturise Lucy's skin every day and after baths ets. If she takes a while to eat, just exagerate a bit and think of the worst day you.ve had so far and use that. Are you in touch with the dsa? you could ring to see if they will send you the help sheet? Good luck xx

Post by max on Feb 14, 2008 13:07:53 GMT
yay you got DLA too - well done, I dunno how it affects tax credits but I guess if you phone them up and ask we'll find out (must put that on my list of things to do!) Also if you don't work or only work part time you can get carers allowance which I'm going to do as soon as I give up my job (roll on the summer!)

Great news about your DLA Max, hope you get carers and more tax credits too. Can I ask a cheeky question? How did you diagnose Caleb's night terrors and what happens... am sure Jasmine has nightmares which I find really strange for a little baby, just wondering what to look out for.

My bro had night terrors and I recognise them. They scream and cry and thrash without waking, they will continue even if you cuddle them and tou can't really wake them up. They can go on for about 10 mins (usually only short though) and then he will calm - sometimes he opens his eyes or sits up but is not awake. My bro used to get out of bed and hide and things like that. Lots of kids have them but will grow out of it. I think I had them too and I still have very vivid dreams and nightmares.

Awwww, well Jasmine has done similar but only a couple of times, like you said Michelle, it's awful because you can't console them, Jasmine just seems to settle back into her sleep. Don't think I suffered from nightmares much as a child although I do now. I have sleep paralasys where you are dreaming and semi conscious but can't wake yourself up so the dream carries on and you can't move.... weird huh?

Yeh Michelle hun, sometimes it takes a few minutes though, once I was convinced that someone was breaking into my house and kicking the front door in, I must still have been dreaming but I felt as though I was awake but couldn't move. (sorry for digressing so far from your thread by the way Max, lol)

no probs Odiness! I remember having a really vivid dream when I was a child where frogs were coming out of the walls! My parents had to change all the decor in my room the next day as the green bits were upsetting me and i refused to sleep in there. I must have been about 2!!
