I woke up at 5.15 on the morning of the 10th Oct. I went to the loo, as we all do at that stage of our PG's. I wiped and got really excited because I had a blood streaked show. My 1st one ever.
I went back to bed and just sat on the edge of the bed in anticipation. Do I wake Carl (DH) up or not?? Do I wait for pains, then by 5.30 I started to get pains. Not overly strong, but definatley different to the braxton Hicks I had been having for weeks on end. I decided then to wake Carl up and let him know that its time.
We had started to time the contractions but they came so strong and so fast by the time 6 o clock come I just had to phone the CMU to get the midwives out.
I phoned them at 6, to be told that the Homebirth team were already out with another lady. They would get back to me to let me know whether to go in or if someone would be able to come out to me. By 6.30 I still hadn't heard anything. I phoned them back because I could feel things progressing very quickly. They reassured me that some one would be with me soon.
7am The 1st MW turns up. I am kneeling in front of the settee, there is no budging me except for the mad dash to the loo to throw up. As soon as I am done I am begging the MW to sort out my meptid. She can't do it, she replied. They need 2 MW's present in order to give any injections. At this point I am almost in tears, but not to worry, the 2nd MW is on her way. Won't be long now.
7.45 After what feels like an eternity of pain the 2nd MW turns up. I start to think "YEY Pain relief" They check me and I am too far into things now for the meptid, baby will be here soon. They said they would set up the G&A for me. Fine I thought, I can deal with that, as long as I have something.
8.00 "OOOOPS we have forgotten the tubes for the g&a"
I cry at this point "Its my 4th baby, I have nothing to prove, I don't want to be a martyr"
The next 20 minutes feel like hours. I cry I moan, I try to change position only to end up kneeling infront of the settee again and again. Then the ring of fire sets in. Babies head is crowning. OMG it bloody stings with no pain relief. I thought it stung before with the others but its felt like her head was MASSIVE. A few more pants and gentle pushes and the head was out. A minute later the rest of her was born.
