There are some nice weaning recipes here upfordowns.proboards82.com/index.cgi?board=antr My Lil holly struggled with weight gain too. If you use formula for the cooking then they are getting the extra cals there too, even better if on high cal formula anyway. Personally I have always given a little solids to start with and then topped up with milk. you will notice that the milk amounts do go down the more solids they have, this is normal. As long as you are using the extra formula with to cooking there should be no problems with weight gain. If you need anymore recipes let me know, I'll sort some out for you

I agree with Rilith, give a little solids before milk, perhaps just a couple of spoons to start with, and use baby rice with formula, it tastes the same as formula, and you can make it as runny as you like.
If he'll take this, then you can gradually increase the amount. I always rekcon the lunchtime feed is the easiest to start with.
I think once you've started, you'll probably be able to work out yourself what his needs are. Weaning always looks really complicated, but I've always found that once I've started it just all comes together.
Good luck with it!!

I used that all the time and found it really handy, as I could never thing of any decent food, and I'm sure daniel was getting bored of the same thing!! Also you can just make the stuff in the book a bit more pureed to suit your babe.

Hi Ang, thats a good book for recipes. When I started George on solids I found it best to give him his first bottle of the day as normal then gave him some baby rice at his next feed before his bottle. He used to have rusk before his last bottle of the day too. I always used formula to mix the solids not cows milk. If you only give him a bit at a time I'm sure he'll be fine and won't be taking less milk. Hope you're getting on ok and Ethan is still gaining weight x
