I have decided to sell the learning aids i make for Saul, I'll give you a few details and hopefully the pictures will work.
I'm now on ebay - sellar id mashy69
Design:
For the 'inside our house' series (more series to follow) the original images took 6hrs to create. I then copy them and colour them by hand which takes about 3-4hrs. I Cut them out and arrange them onto a page where they are then laminated, keeps Saul's grubby hands from dirtying them lol.
I then print, cut out and laminate the name of each object. They are then cut out and applied to the page using Velcro, this allows the learning of the word to be interactive.
The following images are the new version. I decided there needed to be more on a page, and i wanted to theme them to each room more than i had done in the originals.
Learning to read
Front Cover
Playroom
Living Room
Kitchen
Dining Room
Bedroom
Bathroom
Garden
Pets
How they work:
Depending on the child's ability you can start off with just a couple of words per page and slowly build up, or go for them all. The parent can show the child the words on the page beside the image so they can learn to associate them. They can then progress to removing the words and telling the child what each one says in turn and allowing them to place them beside the image. From here you can remove all the words and place them on the table allowing the child to chose the correct word from the group to correspond with each picture.
(Saul enjoys this interaction with the pages, he will take them all and do the final stage on his own.)
Learning to count
This is a short rhyme allowing the child to add the next image and count them all
Here the child can add the numbers into the rhyme, and enjoy handing over the money and taking a pie. Will need to know childs name and/or other family members.
Here the numbers are placed into the rhyme and a sausage removed each time one goes bang
Opposites
these pages work on the removal of the images and allowing the child to recognize which half of the page they belong to, example the ball is big and the apple is small.
Colours and shapes
(There are a couple more shapes and colours to be added to these pages)
All sets come with instructions (just the ideas i used to help Saul learn but i'm sure you can all think of some more ways of your own).
I took the whole collection with Saul to nursery and his teacher really liked them, along with another teacher that passed us as i was showing them to her. His one to one used them with him in the session and enjoyed them.
When Saul starts back at school after half term i am going to ask for a meeting with the speech therapist and give them to her to use with him in school.
I would be grateful to hear from anyone that would be interested in purchasing this type of product. I would be making each page to order. They are not only for children with disabilities as Tai has taken an interest in them so i have had to make him some with large removable pictures instead, but i will be using the above pages with him when he is old enough.
