One of the mums from my support group, Lisa, has done an article for the Telegraph about the birth of her son Harrison. it should be in tomorrows paper My article in Prima babys 2 of a kind section is definately coming out in the next couple of weeks. I got an email to say it looks good from the lady that did the interview. It's in the June issue

Hi
After the article in the paper, Lisa and harrison were on the south eastern news last night.
i was quite pissed with some of the stats in the article though. they were saying about 60% of parents find out from the tests. But i did poll last year on Downsyn and one was done recently that showed 81% of parents found out afterwards. I think they need to really look at these results as it kind of gives false hope to parents who's blood tests showed nothing.

Makes you wander where they get their results from doesn't it!

Hiya
The results came from the DSA. If you returned your questionnaire to them a couple of months ago of how you found out about the diagnosis etc, then you are part of the results. I was e-mailed a copy today and have read it briefly.

I suppose out od those 60% a lot decided to have the terminations I still say I'm one of the lucky ones, I never had to deal with the shock like you guys did. It was so early in the PG that by the time she was born, everyone knew about the Downs. Those are some scary stats though. OMG. That is what it is like, they offer termination like its a cheese sandwich or something. But they don't tell you that childresn with Downs are as varied as children without it. Just look at some of the kids in mainstream school!!!. GRRRRR

it is disgusting that at 35 weeks they are allowed to offer a termination i know some people might decide they cannot raise a child with special needs but at 35 weeks its already a baby so surely it is better to put the child up for adoption this late on in the pregnancy
