Got in from work yesterday and there was an appointment for Grace to see the Heart surgeon. It is for next tuesday the 24th. Apparently this is for us to discuss the op with him and for him to see Grace to give us a month in which the operation will be done. Will let you all know how it goes

Thanks, we are really hoping to get a rough idea when it will be. We have heard so many times now all about the sugery an all , at least we will be able to mentally prepare for it then.

Good luck with the surgeon. After all the waiting it's good to get things moving.
We only had two days to prepare for Lucy's surgery. My husband said "yes" to the op being the following week, but I was screaming "no" because I didn't want her to go for it. It turned out to be the best way as I didn't have time to think about it, we just got caught up and carried along with everything that happened.
We will be thinking of you next week

Good luck for tomorrow I'll be thinking of you. We didn't have much time to get ourselves prepared for George's op (he had a complete AVSD). He had the cardiac catheter on mon 11th December then they phoned us up on the friday saying they wanted him in the following Wednesday. He had his op the next day on 21st December so we spent his first christmas in Birmingham Childrens hospital. Its awful at the time but you'll all be fine and your little girl will bounce back probably before you do!! George has got a check up back at B'ham next monday 30th. Where are you from? Just wondered which hospital you go to. Take care x

Hi Rilith, yes same here although we've only actually seen him once, there's always someone else in when we go. Has Holly had any heart surgery before? My daughter was born in October on the 26th - Scorpio - and she has definately got a sting in her tail. Is this your fourth baby? We'd like another but I don't know if I'm brave enough to go through it all again! x

Well guys, Went to see the surgeon today and everything went really well, he is very pleased with Grace up to now and has told us that her surgery will be done sometime between now and the last week in may!! He talked us through the operation and says that closing the AVSD is generally non problamatic but the fixing of the valve is very critical. Although I am sure you all know that anyway. The other concern that he does have is that as Grace is doing so well without the repair that her pressure in her lungs has adjusted to compensate for the defect, he is worried that after the repair they may not go back to how they should be but this is something they will monitor very closely during her recovery period.
So... In the meantime we are to expect a call, which should be on a thursday. They will ask us to bring grace in on the friday to have her bloods done and then home till sunday when she will then be admitted to hospital for her surgery monday morning. Am very pleased that the op has come around so quickly but at the same time very anxious about it all.

Awwwww Thats great news Shirl. Once its done you can continue with your lives and get back to normal. I'm sure they will do their very best with her and look after her so well Claire, Holly has had lots of little surgerys and has already had emergency open heart surgery when one of her ops didn't go to plan. She has had a couple since then and I am slowly building up my confidence again. Holly was due in October 2005, but came 3 weeks early in September. and yes this is number 4... I must be MAD... LOL

Great news about the op, although I'm know you'll have mixed feelings. Lucy was supposed to be in hospital for 2 weeks when she had her repair, but was out in a week and a half. The nurses were amazed at her recovery. They had to sedate her again in PICU to stop her pulling out the tubes the day after the op. Our kids are amazing aren't they, I would have been lying in a darkened room for weeks afterwards.
