I think Lewis will be fine for one nite. I am surprised they took him off infatrini so quick. Gemma stayed on it until she went onto cows milk at a year old. xx

Hiya Tracey,
Obviously different situation as Jasmine wasn't poorly or loosing weight but often at Lewis' age she would refuse her milk and then other times she'd have more than recommended. Most of the time she didn't have the amount of milk she was supposed to, she doesn't now either but it's easier to make up with yoghurts and cereal etc once they're weaned. Jasmine never ever woke for feeds in the night from day 1, for the first month or so I would wake her but to be honest she was too tired to be interested so in the end I just demand fed and whenever she winged I tried her with a bottle. It's really easy to get obsessed with how much they are or aren't eating but often once you start with the baby rice they loose interest in the milk a little. I'd just see which he prefers and perhaps give him an extra feed of baby rice if he seems to like it, he's still getting some milk that way but also will help with the weight gain.
Good luck.
Lucy

It's really hard to make decisions when LOs have been on special milk and tube fed isn't it, to be honest I'm a wimp when it comes to deciding and I always check with the dietician or nutrional nurse if I'm not sure whether I'm doing the right thing, that's their job after all and it's what they've trained for! There's a nice dietician at the childrens called Emma who would answer any questions you have, I'm sure. If you want her phone number then send me a pm.

We used to "Dream Feed" Holly before we went to bed, and then if she woke up we would top her up.
But she has never been on the continuous feeds though.
Now its easy to get that volume into them when they are tube fed, but if you are like me and are told there is nothing really wrong, you try and wean them off the tubey.
How we managed with Holly was when we came to weaning we used a lot of the infatrini in the cooking. If you made baby rice use the infatrini, if you cook potatoes, cook them IN the infatrini, same with cauliflower cheese, cook the cauli IN the infatrini and make the cheese sauce with infatrini, that way not only is he getting the cals he needs from the milk, he gets it from the food too. That way he should be able to manage with the normal formula for feeds.
Have you learned to pass the tube yourself??? I found it to be the be the best thing in the world. I have full permission from the dietitian should Holly get a bad cold and go off her feeds I can pass the tube and do it that way.

I'm probably being really thick here but what does dream feeding mean?
Glad it went ok today Tina and that he's had a bit more.

Hi Tina, Just wanted to say it will get easier, you're probably extremely sleep deprived as well which doesn't help (I found sleep deprivation a killer!). Although it probably doesn't feel like it at the mo, you will get into a routine with the feeding and it will all sort itself out.
Do you have a paediatric community nurse who visits you? You should have someone who can pop in and see you at home to advise and put the tube back in if need be. xx

I had to wake Caleb every 4 hours for the first 3 weeks or so, then I never woke him - you need the sleep and so does he! It will totally get easier - having a weeny baby is hard work and having one who has just had a major op is even harder. If you can, try to enjoy the precious days of him being so small coz soon he'll be off and driving you made. It is tough on us Mums at the start though - I know I felt like I was failing all the time and Caleb wasn't even having problems! You'll get through. xxxx

Cameron was a nightmare to feed, you could easily be there 1.5 to 2 hours for 50ml and that continued for soooo long. He never got to recommended milk intake.
We did dream feed him though, once we started weaning him it was a struggle for weeks as i never thought he was getting enough, he also had reflux (and still does) which didn't help.
I remember 1 night when brian was at a makaton class, it had taken me nearly 1.5 hours to get 30ml in him and then he brought it all back up!! I panicked and wondered how much he had taken so started trying to measure amount on floor!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is tiring at this stage but it does get better and there are so many professionals telling you hes not getting enough and worrying about his weight, follow your own instinct
Lizzy
PS Dream feeding is when you feed them and they're not awake

PS Dream feeding is when you feed them and they're not awake Thanks for explaining Lizzy, I did that with my eldest two without knowing what it was called, it just seemed to make sense to give them a last feed but to try not to wake them to much. That was nearly 21 years ago mind you, and it didn't have a name then it was just something that we did.

Hi girls, sorry 4 the rant the other night..just felt very low. i know we'll get there in the end,,, just taking a little extra time thats all xx thanks 4 ur advise xx Hi Tina, I think you're doing brilliantly!! you've had so much to have to cope with in the last couple of months and you've barely had chance to blink since the birth! It's only natural that you might feel a little bit tearful now and again. It will get better, I promise. Brett had so many health problems in his first year and I thought it was never going to end, but it does get better and there is a light. Lewis is still post surgery really, early days yet, so he needs a little time to get his feeding established, he'll get there!

Tina, thats fantastic news, must be such a relief for you. I remember when George was tiny he struggled to feed with the newborn and number 2 teats so we ended up using the faster flow number 3 or 4 ones as he'd be there ages and hardly get any milk - these were Avent ones. He was tube fed to begin with but only for about 10 days xx ps. we used to have to wake him for feeds most of the time too x
