Hiya all,
I applied for carers allowance as Jasmine got High DLA. As you know, I am on maternity leave so this is my only income apart from the tax credits and child benefit, apparently £111 a weeks is too much! Should I try again because it doesn't seem right? Some of you who receive it have joint incomes so how can I not qualify? Any tips? It'll make a difference as to whether I can stay off work longer as every penny counts.
Thanks all,
Lucy x

Thanks all, Lucy x Hi Lucy, If you are earning more than £95 per week then you don't qualify for carers allowance, it doesn't seem fare does it. Joint income doesnt count, it's only the 'carers' income that counts iyswim. I put in my claim as soon as my maternity allowance finished and they processed the claim quite quickly. There's a link that explains it all. www.direct.gov.uk/en/CaringForSomeone/MoneyMatters/DG_10012522Kath x

yeah if you have over £95 a week you can't get it! I haven't claimed yet until I leave work in a few months time - woo hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
Are you going back to work soon?

I get carers allowance for Jack and I earn more than £95 per week. What they took into consideration for me was because Jack is at a Day nursery the 3 days that I am working and also I pay into a private pension. They said that these payments are coming out of my earnings and not hubby's so therefore I am entitled. Try again and maybe get some help this time filling out the form.

I am currently trying to get my maternity allowance paid (massive backlog apparently!) but was told that I can't claim carers and MA at the same time. It is a weird and wonderful benefits system!!!
