Hi Katy, An echo is abit like an ultrsound scan of the heart , its non invasive so they use a thing like they do for the ultrasound which somehow gives them a clear pic of the heart, all the valves etc. don't really know how the technology works but know that it was a fairly straight forward procedure for my little one when she had hers. Hi Katy, There are lots of different 'holes in the heart' and many of them will close on their own in the first few weeks/months so it sounds like they want to keep an eye on it and make sure that is the case. When the baby is inside your tummy they have some holes in the heart and then they are meant to close as soon as the baby is born, sometimes when a baby is born early it can mean this doesn't happen. I hope I've explained that properly (trying to remember how it was explained to me when Harry was born). Do you know when they are going to do the echo? It doesn't normally take too long to do, as long as Oliver isn't too wriggly and they can get a good look xxx

He has been refered to the freeman hospital in newcastle to see a spech doc, He has a small hole which thet are going to monitor and they think that the valves on the outside of the heart inside the lung are the wrong way round! He will need a more in depth scan and sometests done, they may leave it bee for a year or so or they may correct it now x
