Just thought id asked about what age our children start walking. My little boy is now 27 months and he wont even stand. He doesnt know what his feet are for. when you stand him up he will hold your hand for a while with his bum sticking out but then moans for you to sit him down.

Hi, I think its fair to say that all our children are just like any other children & do it in their own time. So for us Rachel has just started walking in December so she is 2 years old , but for others I've met it has been earlier & for others it has been later 3/4years old. Now why that is I can't tell you , maybe its to do with muscle tone ? What does the physio advise, for encouraging Samuel to stand? I must admit that although she didn't like them having the piedro boots gave Rachel a good support for standing in the early days. We also use to put toys etc just out of reach on the sofa to try to get her to pull herself up. Strangely we could put her in the standing position from about 12mths & she would play for short times like that quite happily but it took her ages to be able to pull herself to standing, another 6months. Sorry I know this doesn't help much xSusan

Hi, As Susan has said all our children are like other children and will do it in their own time. Henri starting walking holding on to our hands or onto his walker back in August but it has only been the last month that he has been walking on his own but he won't walk outside, I'm working on that one as he is getting to heavy to carry and also it's not easy carrying him whilst having a bump!! We had some help from his physio and also from the portage worker who made him do a lot of standing whilst playing we also used chocolate buttons dotted along the sofa so he had to walk to each one and as Henri likes his food it worked. Gemma was about 29 months when she started walking confidentially. Does your little boy wear the special pedro boots you get from physio. They helped Gemma alot. I use to put them on her and stand her at the settee. They just give that little bit extra support. He will do it in his own time xx

Daniel is 2 years and 7 months old and isnt walking yet - he loves standing and can cruise, and walk if you hold his hand though. He's managed 12 steps on his own and practices all the time... I do have one VERY muscley arm from carrying him about!! It will come... children do it in their own time and as long as they are getting opportunities to practise and strengthen their muscles they will be fine! I think with our kiddies it can be up until about 4 years old. xx

Caleb was crawling at 11 months, and standing holding on from about 8 months - but he was always a really upright baby and he doesn't have the hypotonic muscle thing. He was walking confidently by 18 months and now walks everywhere. He did the same with crawling and walking - showing no interest then suddenly over a few days he got it and OFF HE WENT, no stopping. He will get there but like you say if he's not interested/doesn't know what his feet are for it will take longer!

Holly started to walk at the grand old age of 2 years 9 months old. She still falls over a lot now and she is 3 years 7 months (I think) They all get there eventually

Brodie was about 21 months when he started walking but he was always keen to be on his feet so i think that helped.
Lucas my youngest (not ds) finally cracked the walking today also aged 21 months, however he had no interest in being on his feet for a long time and it was getting to the point i was starting to get worried about him. I suppose it just goes to prove that they all get there in their own time one way or another! x
