I don't know about the rest of you but getting Brodie's haircut has been a pretty traumatic experience since the beginning, snot, tears and practically having to pin him down! So much so that i'd actually let it grow pretty long, however after bringing headlice home from school for the 3rd time i decided enough was enough and the hair had to go Don't know whether its because he's a bit older now or if it was the way we did it but believe it or not we actually had a pleasant experience so i thought i'd share it with you all! We didn't go to the hairdressers, hubby got out the clippers and we set up the big mirror in the front room and let Brodie sit in front of it. First we let him feel the clippers on his hand, then we let him put them on daddy's head which he thought was hilarious! Then he shouted mummy's turn and made a be-line for me and if i wouldn't have got out of the way in time i could have ended up with a pretty interesting haircut myself! Anyway he sat in front of the mirror good as gold, counting as the bits of hair came of and laughing as he threw them on the floor, he did get a bit fed up towards the end but it was nothing compared to what we've been used too! And he was quite chuffed with the buzz lightyear chocolate bar that he had afterwards Anyway not sure if this was just a one off or if we've actually made a break through - i'll let you know next time

Daniel is also HIDEOUS with haircuts - at the hairdressers and at home! A real torture! I think I will try your chilled approach as its usually me who needs the chocolate bar!! Well done Brodie

we go through exactly the same thing with Jack, have to put him in a headlock for the hairdresser to get near him!! snot and tears and hair EVRYWHERE!! there is no way I would attempt it at home, apart from giving him a rubbish cut at the best I might take his ear /nose/fingers off at the worst! luckily the hairdresser is really patient and does persevere with him... though I bet she's always glad to se the back of us! hahaha.... x

It's the same with us with Henri, but his SNS has a lady come in who cuts hair every 6 weeks and I decided I would her have a go and guess what? Henri sat lovely while she cut his hair and she has done a good job too. xx

ARRRGH - gave Daniel a haircut yesterday and it was HORRIBLE! Its the only thing Ive seen him get so upset about I just dont know what to do - we tried the talking, showing, bribing....he can talk about it well beforehand and he does the noise of the clippers on his head (and mine!) but as soon as it starts he is inconsolable. Bizarrely as soon as its finished he's fine and can talk about it again as if nothing happened. We go for clippers as it is quicker and neater than scissors but he still hates it. HELP!!

Same here, its an absolute nightmare. I was a hairdresser before I had George so I always do it myself. It is something I dread doing as he gets so hysterical, like you all said tears, snot and hair everywhere. I think he;s actually scared when he sees the hair falling. Mayber I should try a big mirror so he can see that everything is ok. I usually end up finishing the hair cut in the bath and over the next couple of days when he;s asleep as I always see bits I;ve missed. He needs a haircut now but I keep putting it off - I;m tempted to try the clippers but not sure how he would react to the noise xxx

I can relate to all of these nightmare haircut stories. When Harry was younger I used to be able to use the clippers but now just the sound of them sends Harry off into a major meltdown, so bad I had to stop using them because I was worried he was going to have an asthma attack from all the hyperventilating! I've found the only way I can cut Harry's hair & him remain calm is if I cut it myself when he's having a bath. I'm trying to psyche myself up to get a hairdresser to come to the house in the hope that he may be ok with someone else cutting it at home. Sadly I had to give up on trips to the hairdressers because it was impossible to hold him still and just stepping in the door would lead to a meltdown xxx

This is the one thing Holly is actually good at she will sit nice to have her hair done, and have a trim, as long as its nothing too timely.

Sorry ladies... I've decided it's a boys thing... Jasmine loves having her hair cut and sits really good either at the salon or at home. I usually get me friend who used to hairdress to do it. Getting her to keep bobbles in is another matter but you can't win them all.

not a boy thing here - Caleb loves it! But then he is a bit of a poser and so maybe he just likes the opportunity to look in the mirror for that long! Oh he does have pretty long hair though so no clippers involved (just a nice lady called donna)
