Hiya,
Just wondering if any of you have ever applied for flexible working hours?
Back last year I reduced my working hours to 12 hrs split into 3 shifts out of 6 evenings. The shifts are on a rota system, however i seem to be working far more than my fair share of Saturdays (3pm till 7pm ), this means that Elliott is missing out on a lot of social activities that could only be of benefit to him, and us as a family.
It's got to a stage now when i am on the verge of handing in my notice, something i don't really want to do as my job is the only bit of respite i get. Obviously Elliott's needs come first so i would do this if something can't be resolved between myself and management. Any ideas would be more than welcome. xx
Donna n Elliott xx

What is you job? Perhaps having a discussion with your employers first (especially to say about the extra saturdays you seem to be doing!) Perhaps having some solutions to offer them - different shifts etc may show you are keen to still work, but are committed to your family too. Sorry I cant be much help, but I know the feeling of having to balance work and life!!

I work from home, its the only way now for us really. Its not a great earner but thankfully at the mo we get topped up with tax credits (for how long I wonder :S ) but it allows us to be flexible and work around the kids

I gave up work.. had no choice really. no one would let me have 5 days a week off for joshs appointments. I was a chef and worked very long hours 6 days a week. with only 2 chefs in the building its hard to not work long hours. so i havent worked since Josh was born. I was going back to work when the appointments calmed down which was when he was 3 but we decided instead to have another baby so we had Maddie , then when she was 9 months old i was pregnant with Kaitie . When Kaitie was 11 months old i was pregnant with Alex . I now go to college and am studying anatomy, physiology and pathology. I want to go into holistic therapies.

well i have approached the subject of not having to work so many Saturdays but with not much luck I'm afraid. I have asked if i could take the ones that i need without pay and then that money could be spent on cover, I've asked if i reduced my hours to 8 could i then work two shifts during the week and the 4hrs that I'm giving up could be used to employ someone just for a Saturday. so far it's been a firm no. So much for a store which prides itself on family values. My next step is to put my request in writing and hand that in. Wish me luck xx
