hi everyone harry had his grommets done for the first time yesterday, they tried to put them in before but couldn't because his ear canal is so small. the consultant said yesterday that it was very difficult to do but he managed it this time so i'm hoping it will help his hearing because apparently his ears were completely blocked with glue ear & wax ewwww! anyway, just wanted to ask a question about it because i know some of your kiddies have already had grommets... one of harry's ears was blocked with blood this morning when i tried to put his ear drops in, i spoke to the hospital and they said that was normal but if it continues to take him to a&e. it seems a little better now but just wanted to ask if anyone else had this after the op & whether or not to be concerned. i think he is already noticing a difference in his hearing, he doesn't have any speech so he can't tell me but he seems more aware & looking around, it must be a bit strange if he can all of a sudden hear things after everything feeling all muffled for so long!

Aaaawww bless him, how is he now? has the bleeding stopped? Sorry I have no experience of grommets - it may be in the future though as George has glue ear too. I hope things have settled down now and Harry is enjoying hearing all the new sounds xxx

Glad to report his ears have settled down now & no more bleeding. I'm not sure if it's a coincidence but he is super happy about everything since having them done & even more enthusiastic about joining in watching mr tumble!! (which i didn't think was possible because he was already besotted with something special!) ;D xx

Caleb is on his second set of grommets (1 has already fallen out though grrrrrr) and the difference is always massive - he is always much happier and more responsive. What drops did you have to put in? I never had to do that.

hi max The drops were antibiotic ear drops just to stop infection. Several people have now said to me they've noticed the difference in harry since having the grommets, more eye contact and trying to sign and speak more. Today he said 'cake'!! .... not surprising as he is my son lol ;D I asked him if he wanted another piece of cake and he said 'cake cake cake!!'... pretty huge for a child who pretty much never speaks xxx
