Firstly happy new year everyone, hope it's a happy healthy one xx
Like many of our children Lucy has suffered chronic constipation, however, she has bleed a few times because of the size, which I think has now caused her to not go when she needs to. I have doubled up her movicol, given her apples and orange galore, but still she's holding it, she has been screaming in agony all morning. I know she's holding it because she gets herself in a strange position with her bum in her air to stop herself going.
She went yesterday so I know she's not constipated, but very understandably scared. She hates baths so I can't go down the warm bath route. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I do have some suppositories but the dr told me not to use them now she is getting older as she is always going to associate poo and pain.
Thanks everyone and sorry for the yucky discussion lol x

Sadly when they start associating something natural with pain its really hard to get them to change. Holly was the same as a baby, and she would scream and scream and scream. Thankfully now she will crap anywhere and usually when she is made to laugh too... Not good when you are trying to have a giggle... LOL But maybe thats one route to try. Try tickling her or being silly and see if the force of laughing will push it out?? ((((((((((( HUGS HUN ))))))))))))))))))) Not nice to see them in pain or uncomfortable

Thanks for replying, will try and make her laugh! She has exhausted herself screaming and now sleeping, hopefully when she wakes she will go. Managed to pop a suppository in but she pushed that out, looks like she is constipated as she has some overspill, so will keep getting the movicol in until she goes. It's so distressing to watch, been sat here in tears for her

oh bless her, harry used to have that problem but thankfully (touch wood, fingers-crossed etc!) he seems to be past that now. For Harry I found that drinking lots of blackcurrant squash helps.... but more than that I found there were a couple of things I had to remove from his diet, white bread and scrambled eggs - both immediately make him constipated. Other than that I'm sorry I can't be much help, Harry would be the same and scream until he'd exhausted himself and then eventually go. Is Lucy moving about much now? It definitely made a difference for Harry once he was more mobile. ((((HUGS)))) xx

Thanks Lisa
Yes shes quiet mobile now, and drinks for england loads of squash at least 10 bottles a day. The only other I can think is maybe her thyroid levels are screwy again, although. Still haven't been able to get her blood tested.
She's peaceful now, but as soon as she wakes it's all going to start again, she must have stomachache from hell. I think I'm just going to double her movicol daily until she is going regular again. Maybe she's had too much chocolat like me haha xx

Hi Karen, sorry I don;t have any great advice to offer but the only thing that has worked for George (apart from Movicol) is pure orange juice. Like Lucy he has always suffered from severe constipation and had been on movicol since a baby. But about 3 months ago he took a liking to orange juice having about 3 cups a day and hasn;t needed movicol since. I can;t believe how much difference its made to him. I hope things improve for Lucy soon xxx

Thanks Claire, she was constipated so i Got that wrong, but I do think it's because she holds it and ignores it when she needs to go.
I tried orange juice but she won't drink, but I think. Will get some lolly moods and freeze the orange juice she loves Lollys so it could work!!
Blood test booked for Tuesday her gp is going to do it as it's a nightmare in hospital, and she's not going to wear latex gloves as Lucy is terrified of them... Will let you know how it goes x
