Rash

Got a call from the nursery that Jack is at yesterday to say that he was out in a rash. When you here a rash you think the worst.
Phoned the doctor and because i could not take him there straight away (that i was going to be at least 1 hour as I had to pick him up) the doctor could not see him. He told me to take in to the casualty department at the hospital.
I pick Jack up and took him to the doctors as i was not going to wait 3-4 hours (at least) to find out what was wrong.
The doctor agreed to see him but was very short with me (in was a locum doctor not Jack own doctor).
He examined Jack and told me that it was either a throat infection or a viral infection he did not know which. He gave me an antibiotic for the throat infection and he got a throat swab done. Results should be back in 5 days.
Jacks own doctor is on holiday, i am going to put in a complaint about the doctor that saw Jack yesterday as i feel that he was out of order not wanting to see him in the first place especially with a rash.
Jack still has the rash today and off his food a bit and is not him self.
Did anyone else have a rash with a throat infection or viral infection.

Hi,
Some doctors can be so rude sometimes, i would definately make a complaint. You can never be too careful when its a rash and like you said you always think the worst so it's definately best to get it checked out.
When Brodie was just a few months old i took him to the doctors as he had a rash and generally wasn't himself. The doctor said the same thing to me that it was probably just a viral infection and that babies quite often get rashes after they've had colds and things.
Hope Jack's feeling better soon x x

Hi pinkshell1110, thanks for that the only thing Jack does not have a tempature. If he had a tempature i could associate that with the rash i just dont know.

Is the rash all over. Gemma had a rash last year and my husband took her to A & E. They put her in quarantine coz they said it was measles, then they decided it was a viral infection. She didnt get any better so I took her to docs and they still said it was viral and then I took her to docs again and the doctor had book of rashes, and he looked in his book and realized she had scarlett fever. It took a week to get the right diagnoses and turned out not to be a viral infection. I have very little faith in doctors these days, they seem to put everything down to a viral infection!! xx Hope Jack soon feels better xx

hi debs4 and nikki Jack has rash every where except for his feet. At the nursery they thought that it was hand, foot and mouth but because it was not on his feet that was ruled out.
I asked the doctor was it measles and he told me that "you do not get measles in the Western Board" so when I came out and realised what he said I thought that I was lucky to live in this part of Northern Ireland as it is the only place free of measles. I can see why you do not have any faith in doctors (thank god it was a locum and not his own GP. If he is no better in a day of two I will take him back

Hi Sharon - hope Jacks ok. Daniel had a bit of a virus - nothing serious tho, and when he was feeling better, came out in the WORST rash I'd ever seen. All over his body and face, he looked awful. Anyway, turns out it was how his body reacted to the virus. It lasted for a while and then eventually went away. He was fine, and it didnt bother him. Do complain about the docs - I never seem to get my doctor at short notice and the ones I get are always stuffy and desperate to get us out!! x

Hi Sarah - Jack is a good bit better. When Tracy saw the rash yesterday she said no wonder you wanted to see a doctor. She even thought that it looked like measels. Thank god the spots are starting to die today and he is eating better today. The only thing he has got very clingy since he was sick which is not Jack. Hopefully we will be back to normal (whatever that is) soon

Hi sharon, I am so glad that jack is doing a bit better. Grace has came out in a rash a few times and every time they say its a viral thing, Dont know about you but it does my head in, to me it is just too easy an answer, thanksfully they have ben right each time but I often think they should at least do a few checks to show they are actually concerned.

Hi Shirley, Jack is in great form today, not even clingy. A viral infection to me is when the doctors do not have a clue what is wrong. As you say it would be nice if they would atleast pretent that they are converned.

It must have been a viral infection that Jack had as his throat swab came back normal.
I phoned the practice manager and complained about the locum that wanted me to take Jack to casualty that day. She said that if it was a formal complaint that i was making i would have to put it in writing. I said that i just wanted them to know that i was not happy with the locum and just to pass it on to the doctors at the surgery.
She appologised on his behalf and i told her that she had nothing to applogise for it was him that should be appologising. She also said that the girls at reception did not realise the seriousness of the matter and i also told her that they did not make the decision to send Jack to casualty, it had nothing to do with them.
She thanked me for being honest about the matter and would keep a record of it on file just for information purposes. She also said that they would want more people to be honest about locums either good or bad

Got a phone call from the Practice Manager at the Health Centre yesterday. She said that the Doctors could not apologise enough for what had happened.
She said that they have procedures for all locum GP to follow and they are now going to put on it that if a mother phones up to say that a child has a rash that child has to be sceen by the GP not to be sent to Casualty.
She asked was I pleased enough with that and I told he that as long as it was noted by the Doctors I was happy enough as I did not want it happening to anyone else.
