We went to a coffee morning on Wednesday with the local support group and one of the mums mentioned her little girl had had the flu jab. I asked how come she's had it and she seemed to think that all babies and kids with ds should have it because of their immune systems being a bit weaker. Anyway I asked our gp and she seems to think that George should have one because of the heart problems he's had. She's going to speak to my hv about it. Just wondered if anyone elso knew about this x

cory had the flu jab when he was a baby. it turned out he was entitled to it as they had some notion he was prem, as its prem babies that are entitled, but that was 4 years ago things might of changed, dont know how they thought he was prem with a birth weight of nearly 9lb!!! may be coz he was in hossie for his first 3 months but he got it and not since but touch wood he has only had one chest infection...it would be worth asking but some times the jab does make them a bit ill is George still on meds for his ticker ? corys scar is silver now and barely visible and we have been med free for 3 years now

I was going to ask the same thing - my HV visitor asked me about it the other day when C had his booster jab. The thing is he's due the MMR next month and he just had his booster so the flu jab would be 2 more on top of that - it seems a lot for a little boy! And he's only had 2 colds and a bit of croup since he was born so seems to have an OK immune system as far as I can see. I can see why you might want it for George if he's had heart probs though. My HV is going to ask my GP.... maybe we should get them to all get together and chat???

Gemma had the flu jab last year because of her heart condition and very low immune system. Her immune system should hopefully be getting stronger now but she will still have the flu jab again this year xx

We all go along and have the flu jab as a family each year. Since we had Harrison, the nurse suggested we all have it which reduces the risk of Harry getting poorly. He had pneumonia several times when he was a baby and also breathing problems so that's the main reason, I'm not sure they would have suggested it just because of him having ds. Works out well for us though, as none of us have had flu or a nasty cold in the past couple of years (touch wood!). xx

Holly had the RSV jab last year cus of the heart. But asked about all the jabs this year and she doesn't have to have any... YEY !! Phone the cardiologists and ask them. Its more their parts that need protecting so they will advise you best on what jabs to do

Crystal - I phoned the surgery and made an appointment, you should just do that for Danny as well. Lucy's getting her tomorrow after soft play.
