Hi healen - weve just taken Daniel (Hes nearly one) and everything was fine - they do take quite a bit of blood though!!! I have a feeling that although annoying if there was a problem its one of those things that if found early is really easily treatable. Good luck!

we have been for 2 of these now, they are nothing to worry about. They prick their finger and squeeze some blood onto the paper, it does look quite a lot but its not really. Then they send it off to be tested and you get the results. Leo is never bothered by the test, and is always good, they have to squeeze quite hard to get all the blood they need, but I'm sure he will be fine. Don't worry too much, let us know how you get on.

Hi, George had is first thyroid function blood test done yesterday, and I'm sorry to say it was not a nice experience for him (or me). They couldn't find any veins and tried his arm twice, his foot and finally the inside of his wrist. As you can imagine he was screaming the place down and they only managed to get a little bit from him before it started clotting. They said if they haven't got enough they will do a heal prick next time. It might be worth asking about doing a heal prick test on Gabriel if his veins aren't visible like George's as its so distressing for them. Don't want to worry you but its good to be prepared and Gabriel might not be so mean with his blood! x

Katelyn helps the nurse to do it now! The wee soul. A couple of times the nurse has had to come back to the house and do it again cause she didn't get enough blood in the circles. She kept apologising! Katelyn is neither up nor down with the whole experience!

Well I finally got to the hospital for gabriels test! He had to have blood taken from his foot cos that was the only place they could find a decent vein, the nurse said he is well covered every where else, polite way of saying he is a chunk I think. Gabe's still on formula but the next steps 1. He has always been a sicky baby but even more so on cows milk, an he luvs the bottle!

When Charli was poorly a few months back a doctor told me that its very common to struggle to get blood from children with T21 didnt explain why though thats why they took it from her head before, i hope they dont have to do that everytime though. When will you hear the results of the test Mark?

He screamed the place down. Glad I wasn't there. I went with him to have a needle a few months back but I found myself getting extremely angree at someone sticking needles in my son. I know its a bit silly but I was fuming, they must jab so many kids each day they just stick the needles in and hand him back without remorse. He was crying and I was tamping....better off not going to any more.

I'm not sure how Lisa's went, as her dad took her, I was in hospital recovering from having Rhys.
I can only assume te results came back ok, as it was all such a blur at the time.
I think she'll be due for another one soon, not sure I want to be the one to take her now lol! Maybe it could be a dad thing!

Hi Jojo
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. My mrs is obviously a lot tougher than me when it comes to this sort of thing. I'll take him if I got to but, since she just passed her driving test, I haven't go to so I just let her do it. I recommend you fein illness and let your husband keep taking her cos it's not very nice.

Im the same i hate Charli having needles blood test etc, it makes me want to cry, and as mark can not get the time off as easy as me it always falls to me taking her, i remember when she was poorly they wanted to check gas levels in her blood( i think thats what it was) and they needed to get it from her heel it was horrible and seemed to take forever poor Charli was hysterical, she has got her jab soon not looking forward to it! x

As I said previously, just fake that you are ill or, and I recommend this rather than see your child get stuck with a needle, throw yourself down the stairs (as controlled as you can) just as your partner comes in from work the previos day. Hey presto you got a 3day pass to stay in bed getting pampered and you get your partner to take the young un to the doctors. It's a win win situation, so long as you dont get to badly hurt

LOL!!! Just got to say that pic of you and Gabe asleep is the cutest thing ever!
I hate Caleb having blood tests - I refused to allow his last one as it seemed pointless (they wanted to redo the genetics one to check for mozaicism) I don't like the jabs either but at least they have some medical purpose.

Yes your right....the Man's Lib will be gunning for me, especially if I tell the one where we come home from work, pretend to be stressed out so we got to go for a long walk but....the long walk is a short walk to the pub where you arranged earlier in the day to meet your mates.
DOHHH!!!! Thats my arse.
