Jack has his first hearing test (Visual Reinforcement Audiometry) next friday since he had been discharged from the hospital. This is a specialised test has anyone heard of it. Hopefully it will go well

Hiya
Thomas has had quite a few of these now, the last being this Tues. Although it sounds really technical, let me tell you, it isn't!! Its just a variation on the distraction test that the health visitor used to use!
Basically you sit in a soundproof room with Jack on your knee. Someone will try to distrct him with toys on a table infront of him while someone else will play varying sounds from either side of the room. If Jack turns to look towards the sound, he will be 'rewarded' by puppets or other such (scary/odd looking! lol) things moving in glass cases. When the sound stops the idea is that the glass cases go dark again so that Jack won't be able to see the toys. Each time a sound is played they will record if Jack acts appropriately (eg turns the right way, how fast he turns etc).
At least, thats whats happened everytime Thomas has been. Unfortunately Thomas isn't interested in the puppets so its really hard to gage his response.
Hope this helps.
Good luck. xx

Jack had his hearing test today.
They said that a so called normal child has a reading of 30 and jacks was between 50 and 60.
He was aware that there was noise but did not know which side it was coming from as he was more interested in the toys in front of him.
It was also his nap time
I think that i am trying to convince my self at this stage.
They are going to see him again in January.

Maybe he was just having male selective hearing!! It's difficult to test little kids hearing especially if they just don't feel like it!

Hi, yeah these boys and their selective hearing, lol! George was like that at his hearing tests, only getting to 75 decibels, he really wasn't interested at all and even had a really big yawn the once, it was so funny. He has hearing aids now but at his last test he got to 50 without the aids in so hopefully Jack will be a bit more interested when he has his next test done xx

Jack had his second hearing test today.
They said that there is a slight improvement since the last time on his hearing.
When they checked his ears there is no sign of glue ear.
He will be seen again in about 3-4 months.
Dr Harper heard him saying "ba" and waving (which is bye) to the car today she was impressed - so was I.
