very funny story about when i had josh, i had josh the friday. just the day before, i had an appointment with the consultant, she examined me and said, you wont see your due date and the baby's head wasnt engaged at that point!! i had 19 days to go. if i had have known that she meant just 24 hours later i would be holding my baby, i wouldnt have left the hospital!! it did actually work out that it was exactly 24 hours later! i had been getting braxton hicks all the thursday so i was quite surprised when i got them again thursday night but they were painful. so we went to the hospital around midnight and they said that they were just particularly nasty braxton hicks. i was back in at 8 the following morning in full labour (waters had broken at 5am) and i had josh at 11.29am...not bad for my first pregnancy!

Wow, that went well.... Had a nightmare with my first....19 hours....pethadine.....had to have my waters broken.....then she had to be pulled out with ventouse!!
The other two were fine though....waters broke by themselves then labour started....around 6 hours for dd 2 and around 5 hours for Lisa.

i had gas and air but i was sick with it (i decided half way through labour that i needed a wee and puked up the length of the toilet cubicle..) so they gave me pethedine and i slept between contractions....still insisted on gas and air tho.....

I was going to have pethadine but not epidural. but MW's weren't listening to me saying i wanted to push so ended up with nothing. gas and air made me feel faint so weren't allowed that.
Id had contractions for 20 hours went to hosp, then at 22 hours wanted to push and he was born at 24 hours. Had my water broken as i pushed him out.
Saw a friend yesterday whos LO is 6 weeks old, she said Gas n air made her feel faint but she had pethadine and ended up with a dead leg for hours.
She also thought i knew Saul had Downs before he was born, she assumed i'd had an amnio, so i had to explain the story. I think the fact the blood test really tells you nothing may have got into her head by the end

Robbie (aged 7) his birth was fine. waters broke on their own. I trundles off to the hospital.
I had gas and air and a shot of pethadine and had him at 1 in the afternoon I was home by 6.30.
Stevie (aged 4) I had a home birth. That was great!!! The had to break my waters for me, and I had only gas and air. It was sooooo good being at home.
Holly (21 weeks) they induced labour, cus they thought she had stopped growing. So I went in at 10 in the morning. Had pessaries at 12. Waters broke at 5. And had her at 9.45. I did just a shot of pethadine, no gas and air this time, it makes me have really sicky labours...lol I had to stop in for 5 days while they waited for the all clear from Brum as to whether she could go home or not.
If I was crazeeee enough to have anymore I would have another homebirth!!!

I have to admit a home birth does sound like a nice idea, but I have the smallest bathroom imaginable, and I've seen the mess that comes with having a baby, so wouldn't want it anywhere else in the house.....hopefully I'll be able to use the birthing pool at the hospital again, (it was really nice) but there is only one there, so it's first come first served!

There is no mess JoJo, Honestly. the only unpredictable bit is the waters going. Everything else they are prepared for. We didn't have to clean up any birth mess at all. The midwives did it.
My bathroom ain't exactly big either. LOL. ;D
