Found ur site thanks to reading Tantalinzina[probably spelt wrong]on bounty site. Married 18yrs, am 43 and have 8kids. Conán 17, Tiarna 14, Daire 12, Niamh 10, Seán 8, Lorcán 5, Quinn 2 and our new arrival Oisín 9weeks. [ps and the dog Rua 2yrs]. Live in Scotland, originally from n.ireland. Would have posted some photos but my IT skills not that great so will have to corner one of the older kids to help!! Anyway, Oisín arrived at 36+5 and was only 5lb5oz, a real light weight as mine are usually around the 8/9lb mark. His entry into the world was quite dramatic, cockey but harmless m/w led to Ozzy arriving in the hospital corridor! Luckily this didn't have any detrimental effect on his health and thankfully neither did his Downs, once he was feeding well, gaining weight and his jaundice had cleared he came home and has proceeded to rule the roost. He is now 9lb and spoilt rotten by all, just another addition, no special treatment and the kids are already planning no9 [the boys are hoping for twin girls]. I have warned my m/w that she might just see me again in about a year if John and I are lucky again!! Other than trips to different specialists, which are thankfully tailing off as Oisín has proved to be extremely healthy, our lives haven't changed - days are hectic as ever.

Originally from the falls road, the moved to nursing in kent, then to the met pol in london now live near jedburgh in the scottish borders. Read tantalizintina[did I get it right this time] in bounty re tests etc for downs and one particular entry banging on about 'normal'and I enjoyed your reply, it certainly made the writer rethink her attitude. personally i was reared to accept all and treat everyone as u would like to be treated. i didn't bother with any tests during pregnancy because I believe that a baby is a baby no matter what! All my kids are unique and all have things they are good at and not so good at, as i told my mum 'ozzy isn't special, he's just like the rest and when he's older he'll get my toe up his bum if he doesn't behave, just like all the rest'. I am lucky to have a few very close friends who didn't bat an eyelid when i told them ozzy had downs and treated his arrival just as they had all the rest. One of these friends has a 34yr old son Ben who has downs so we spent loads of time swapping stories about palmar creases and muscle tone and attitudes. [By the way these palmar creases- my husband john has them! strange but true!]. I think that gave me the strength and patience to deal with the well meaning aquaintences and medics who could only come up with patronising comments. Yes, I was tempted to be sarcastic but I really do feel that these comments are bred from ignorance/stupidity and hopefully over time I can show these people that they really need to rethink their attitudes. P.S my name is Breige

Thanks for the lovely comments. The kids love the site and have spent ages ohhing and ahhing at all the beautiful babies. I also have to admit that there was a bit of ohhing and ahhing from Tiarna and Daire over your two big boys Tantalizintina!!! I'm still trying to get to grips with the computer and trying to get the old grey cells working so bear with me. Breige
