Hi
I've been doing Makaton with Kate since she was 2 and I think it is great. Our support group in the nursery ran a course that I went and I thoroughly enjoyed it. More is - make a fist with your left hand (thumb on top), and bring your open right hand down on top. Milk - make a fist with your right hand with your thumb up (like OK) and put your thumb on your lip. Kate finds it alot easier to get her point across with the signs, especially to other people that maybe can't understand her.

I sign with Henri, and I brought this book called Complete guide to Baby Signing by Joseph Garcia which uses BSL and it comes with a DVD dictionary. I found this book quite helpful it costs £29.99. x

Hi Karen, The something special dvds are great and I've learnt most of my signing from them. I went on a half-day course for makaton but I've learnt alot more from just watching the something special dvds with Harry. I felt quite daunted by it when I started signing but its surprising how quickly it will become part of your day and you will sign with Lucy automatically. The basic signs like eat and drink are good ones to start with, and like you said, more and all gone. Makaton have a web page with info & something special has a page on the cbeebies website too which may help, Harry loves looking at this and absolutely loves mr tumble. Have fun with it xxx

I use lovely board books by Annie Kubler (put it into something like amazon and they will come up!) which are great and VERY child (and parent!!) friendly. Titles like ' my first 50 signs' and 'my first animal signs' (I think thats what they are called as they are in Daniels room and he's having a kip!!) She also does smaller nursery rhyme ones. Good luck!! xx
