Hi everyone I know i have mentioned Lucy's constipation before, Im having real concerns with this. Lucy is currently having 15ml lactulose a day and 5 ml senokot a day. She has weetabix/fibre everyday, fruit, veg, at least 20-30oz of fluid a day but she's still struggeling. I've had to re-introduce suppositries again!! She is screaming while trying to go sometimes they are hard and sometimes not but she just can't seem to pass them easily enough. If she misses going for day, we have terrible trouble. She is having a thyroid test monday and i will again discuss with the consultant. She said before just keep increasing the laxatives - but im quiet worried about doing this, can it harm her to have too much? any advice anyone, its awful to see her in such pain and its making me cry too

Hi Karen, I think alot of us will relate to this as unfortunately its a common problem with our little ones. Harrison used to scream for hours and there seemed nothing I could do to help. He used to have lactulose too but turned a corner when he started drinking more juice, what fluids will Lucy drink? I've heard prune juice is meant to be good, Harry now drinks lots of blackcurrant juice which thankfully keeps him regular. I've learnt to avoid certain foods which make him worse, white bread, scrambled egg were always bad for him. Sounds like Lucy is having all the right foods, weetabix etc is great. As they get bigger and more mobile and their muscles get stronger it gets better too - fingers-crossed it will get better for Lucy soon xxx

Thanks Lisa, i got really upset as her little bum got sore and had a few drops of blood and i cried so much with her the consultant told me to put vaseline around her bottom before she goes to make it easier, but i couldn't find it and felt so bad she will drink water, blackcurrent, apple juice and milk. I have tried prune juice but she will not take it ( and i can't say i blame her lol) She likes bread and i buy wholemeal especially for her, she also likes pasta which may not be so good for her.

Oh poor Lucy and poor you! Rosie has always suffered from constipation and finally after 4 mls lactulose 3 times a day and still no good the consultant put her on half sachet Movicol once a day. For a while she was on both and i kept juggling the lactulose trying to get it right. At the moment she is on 1 sachet of Movicol daily and no lactulose but now has a runny bum!!!! I am putting it down to having another cold but will see how it goes. Have stopped the Movicol until the diarreaoh stops. I would suggest putting the prune juice (only need a little bit - 1 dessertspoon?) in with the orange juice or something? and try talking to your consultant again. It is so awful and unfair. I really hope you get it sorted very soon. Michelle x

have you tried adding prune juice to a pudding or something? I used to give Caleb stewed apricots with a dash of prune juice or orange juice with yoghurt or custard. Egg makes it worse and I think banana can too? It does get better, Caleb has no problem now he's bigger and active. Oh I have some recollection of someone saying that they watered down formula milk (if she still has that?) for a few days when their little one got a bit bunged up. Caleb ate half a tub of sudocrem once - that really cleared him up - though it wasn't exactly something I planned, more I just found him munching it!!!!!!!

hi i know just how you feel. We thought we'd turned a corner with Elliott he'd been great since the end of august. Now he's been having trouble again, even had to give him a suppository the week before last. Only thing i can put it down to is that i started back to work two weeks ago and so now he's having less to drink in the evenings while I'm at work. Elliott is still breast feeding but wont drink large amounts from a bottle or cup. been sitting up with him for hours some nights with him upset trying to poo. Feeling pretty guilty about it at the moment.
