On Monday Henri went to his main stream pre school as normal, but at 2.55 pm I had a phone to call to say that everything was alright but Henri was a bit lifeless and he won't stand up, with this I grabbed Isobel and rushed out the door to go and get him. I got to school to find Henri very hot and sleepy and he wouldn't weight bear on his legs. When we got home we were taking our shoes off when Daniel told me that another child had stood on his back with this I rang the school and told them what Daniel had said and that we were on our way to the hospital. I thought he had broken his back. The school then told me that another child had fallen on him at lunch time. Why they didn't tell me when I picked him up I don't know. Got to the hospital and we were rushed through to the childrens room where the doctor gave him a good look over, everything was ok apart from when the doctor touched his left leg the doctor said I don't think it's broken but we will have it x-rayed just in case, and guess what he has broken his tib and fib the doctor then said that this kind of brake is done by something falling on it or being stamped on. I was absolutely fuming at this point he had gone all afternoon with this injury not surprised now why he wouldn't weight bear on his legs. I went into school the next day to get some answers, I was then told they couldn't tell me what really happened because nobody saw it. They have said they are really sorry and they are going to make changes but do I trust them NO WAY, the child in question is rather overweight and I have myself even told her not to pick him up and to leave him alone many times. I have told her mother that I'm really fed up with her daughter. The school wasn't even going to tell her parent's I then said if you don't I will and I will do it in public with that they did ring her parent's. The school have said that they will change playtimes and not have them with the main school, they will look into getting Henri a play assistance to watch him for his own safety ( I requested one back in January and they said no as they have enough staff ), get a teacher to watch this child if the school and pre school have to be together, is this enough I don't know. I now have a 2 1/2 year old in a full leg cast a nearly 2 month old baby and still recovering from a c-section, can I take anymore NO I CAN'T. I now haven't got any day care for Henri apart from his 2 mornings at his special needs school what else can happen.

Hi Anita, Poor Henri, hope he's not in too much pain now . I'm not surprised you're fuming - if you've drawn attention to this child always trying to pick Henri up etc then they needed to make sure they're watching Henri & her at playtimes . I think a pre school having playtime with the main school is a bit unrealistic safety wise, i suppose it's amoney saving exercise ! Maybe they need to stagger playtimes , make them smaller, by splitting the year groups.. How many staff are on duty at playtime ? And to leave him all afternoon - is not good practise at all - when I worked as a TA we always erred on the side of caution better to get them checked out quickly . Is there anyway your health visitor can get you some help? Like a family aide or a home start helper,( I found Home Start brilliant whe I was just starting out with Rachel & I know they help out with all sorts of family situations ) someone to maybe play with Henri whilst you get a bit of rest with baby for an hour or even if you want to get jobs done . do you have a portage worker cos they're a good source of info (sometimes) about what help is available. Take care & be kind to yourself, minimum housework (only essential) & take your rest where you can. xSusan

wow thats horrid! Poor little boy and I'm not at all surprised you feel like you can't take anymore! ( I have a 5 month old baby and with a toddler it's enough to drive anyone potty sometimes) I hope that girls parents were suitably apologetic - that must have been some accident to break his poor leg! I know kids are amazing though and he'll heal up really soon.
There must be some help available? I mean, surely you shoouldn't be lifting or anything so how can henri get about? I'd ask portage or sure start. Do you have any family near by who could help out? I really hope it gets sorted soon. That cast is going to feel hot hot hot in this heat too - though it's supposed to be ending tomorrow. I really feel for you and wish I had some better help or advice!

OMG that is terrible, I'm lost for words! I know accidents can happen but this sounds like something that could have so easily been avoided! Poor little guy, must of been awful for him (and you!) this is why our children need someone with them at all times - because they can't tell us if anything happens to them or if they are hurt! I would definately contact home start or your health visitor, you must be able to get some kind of help! My health visitor mentioned to me after i'd just had the twins something about having a trainee nursery nurse come to the house to help out as they need to do placements for their course, you can't leave them on there own with the children but it would certainly be an extra pair of hands to help with lifting henri and things so maybe there's something like that in your area? Hope the little dude makes a speedy recovery x x

Hope Henry is starting to feel better now - I would be fuming too! Especially as the nursery didnt tell you anything about it - they could easily have said something when you went to get Henry, even if they didnt know exactly what happened! Definately agree with the others - sure start can help, as you shouldnt be doing too much - actually want to jump in the car and give you a hand! Really hope its sorted out for you. xx

I hope Henri is healing up ok, i'd seen on facebook that he had his leg in plaster but now i'm reading the full story i'm so shocked that the school didn't take this more seriously, how horrible and stressful for you all. I have a carer who looks after Harry for us now for 5 hours a week so that i can get a break or just do something with sam. It was arranged through direct payments, a social worker came and assessed us and decided on 5 hours a week and then a lady who works for direct payments came and helped me set it up. It can be a bit of a faff setting it up but now its up and running its a godsend for us, Harry loves his carer and they're more like extended family now

Update on Henri
I have informed Ofsted and the early years officer and they are going to investigate the school, the early years officer wanted to do it the last week of term but the head woundn't let her in what are they hidding and they are still not giving me any answers. They have said sorry and that's the end of that and now let's sweep it under the carpet.
Henri had his first review at his special needs school (Battledown) where everyone gets together and reports on his development, everyone managed to say something postive about his development but his mainstream setting carers couldn't really say anything about his development, so my question is what have they been doing with him?
I also told them last Thursday that Henri wasn't coming back in September and they really wern't that bothered. As they are a small school they are desperate to keep numbers up and now having been talking to other parent's I feel we were just a number, so in September I'm having to go looking at school's for Daniel as I'm really not happy about him being there aswell.
But on a positive note Henri had his cast removed today.
I've also applied to get some help with Henri, we have been asessed and I'm just waiting to hear when they have found someone.

OMG I;m so shocked to have read what has happened to poor Henri. Glad to hear that he is on the mend now and also glad that you're not sending him back to that pre-school. Its disgusting that they left him so long, you must have been so upset. I can;t believe that they let all the kids of such different ages play together, thats just asking for accidents to happen and they clearly don;t have enough staff. I hope you don;t have to wait too long to get the help sorted - who did you go through? Love to you all and huge hugs to Henri (he looks sooooo cute in the photo), love claire xxxxxx

Arrrrrrrrrr Henri is back in plaster but luckly if lucky it's below the knee this time unless he manages to pull it of, then we have to go back in 2 weeks time to have it removed. I was told by the dr and phiso that by the weekend last weekend he should be walking on it no problem but no he was crawling everywhere i knew there was something not right so i fought with the hospital yesterday and was told to come back in, after spending 4 hours at the hospital ( we also had a hearing appt) they decided to put a cast back on.

OMG poor Henri, poor you - how maddening for you that they wouldn't believe you when you said things weren't right still ! I do hope he keeeps the cast on . Am I daft but is Henri just expected to get up & walk on his leg without any help or encouragement - isn't that the role of the physio ?

Poor little man and useless hospital by the sounds of it. I agree with Susan that he should receive some physio to help him get used to walking again. Hope everything goes well with him xxxxx

He would get physio but get this she only works in term time!!! we have to wait until September for the physio, I'm banging my head against a brick wall, why people don't listen to parent's when they are the one's that knows the child best.
Also we have had to cancel his operation due to his leg being in plaster we have only been waiting 6 fliping months now back to the bottom trying hard to get to the top again ( the op is for his testies they haven't desended ). Can we have the rest of the year without any hospital appointments as i feel i should be on the pay role.
I'm going through CADCAF ( cheltenham and district carers and familys) to get the extra help but they haven't found me anything yet.

How annoying. It does make you laugh (or cry) doesn;t it about the term time thing, do they think our kids are magically problem free during the holidays? if only. Do you have 'Crossroads' in your area - they are a respite service that come to the home xxxx

Just a quick update - I have had an official apology from the school about Henri's so called accident, it has only taken them 5 months and they did get investigated by Ofstead and they have had to make some changes about having school aged children and pre-school children having breaks together.
