Maybe its just Lucy's character but just recently last 6 months or so, loud noises really seem to upset her. She reacts in one of 2 ways, full on tantrum or very withdrawn and she hides. maybe its just a phase. Anyone any experience of this?

Daniel would jump at sudden loud noises and start to cry - even a loud cough would set him off! He doesnt any more - maybe he's just used to more noise since he's been to nursery/preschool? I think its a phase as they are starting to process more sounds and emotions and then they can then start to filter out the ones that don't matter/surprise them. I dont really know!!

Rachel still gets upset at some sounds , particularly, the hoover, carpet sweeper, electrical tools & strangely people who laugh loudly . Rachel has just recently taken to alerting us when she hears a noise she doesn't know, she will stop still ,cup her hand to her ear & say'sound' in an enqiurying way - then seems quite happy when we say 'plane' etc. But still haven't been able to get her to accept the hoover noise like that so have to get someone to take her out or upto her room whilst I do it . Is Lucy's hearing good ? Rachel has good hearing, maybe its to do with the pitch of sounds ? Worth asking at Lucy's next check up.

Harry is the same, with him it's more loud noises which are unfamiliar, for example if someone laughs loudly and it catches him off guard he can get very upset sometimes leading to a full scale tantrum! He doesn't react as often as he used to, some loud noise don't bother him at all but occasionally he still reacts.
I think for some children it is just a phase so you may find Lucy stops doing this, but with Harry this has been an issue for quite a while so i try now to surround him with familiar people and places where possible to avoid him being upset.
