Dear Daniella
I was sorry to hear that you feel you have not been able to access the information you have needed from the Down's Syndrome Association to date. I have checked with our Membership Department and it appears that you haven't taken advantage of joining the Association (it is free to families for the first year). If you had joined us, then you would have automatically been sent a copy of our literature list which comprises approximately 100 of our publications and information resources, covering every aspect of Down's syndrome from: new parents booklets, health information, welfare benefits advice, masses of information on early development, education, speech and language development and so on. You would have also received a copy of our comprehensive Journal which is distributed to all members on a quarterly basis. This magazine is packed full of the latest news, research, information resources, training events and conferences organized by the Association, letters from other members and details of what work the Association has been doing lately in the fields of health, education, social care, advocacy and lobbying of the Government.
Most of the resources I have mentioned above are also available to download completely free of charge from our website www.downs-syndrome.org.uk - if you spend a little time navigating the site, you should find that there is a wealth of information available at the click of a mouse.
If you could reply with your postal address, I would be very pleased to forward you a membership form and a selection of the literature I have outlined here.
Alternatively, if you would like to chat over any of your needs in terms of information, one of our Information Officers would be able to help you - please call them on 0845 2300 372. In addition to providing a generic information service, we also have advisors covering specific areas such as welfare benefits, education, speech and language development, health and medical matters and behaviour. These advisors can be accessed through the Information Team.
I hope that this is of some help to you.
With kind regards
Julian Hallett
