oooooo I so want to learn it. I'm going to ask at the child development centre next time I go.
As far as I'm aware its compatable with BSL, there is no conflictions making it difficult to learn BSL. But I'm no expert.

Hi Lizzymd and Rilith In our area services use signalong which was developed from Makaton. Sites to look at are www.signalong.org.uk and www.makaton.org.uk. Something Special on BBC 2 and CBeebies on at 10:30 and 2:30 in our area is based on Makaton. Also Fun Song Factory has a 2 DVD out at present .Its full of songs and nursery rhymes and the presenters do signalong as they are singing its really easy and Dominic loves it. We got ours from Asda for £10:97. Maxine mum to Dom and Elliott.

I've done a course at our local disabled childrens centre back in 2004. it was about 3 hrs long and they just showed you the basic signs you'd need to start with, gave us some print outs with the signs on. Saul has the something special DD's which he loves and luckily for us his able to pick up a sign after just seeing it once.
The one thing with Makaton that does wind me up is the price of their things, the dvd's are over £20 each and you can only get them from them. I don't understand why to have a CD with the signs on is £60 so we can help our children learn to communicate, when 'normal' kids learn communication for free!
I'm thinking of asking the family fund for some money to get makaton things this year
