Hiya all... hope ur all ok xxx I need a lil advise again, As u know Lewis is bein btl fed n topped up by tube.. He's on 60ml of infatrini every 3hrs.. he now weighs 9lb in weight n his meds hadnt been changed since he was born (as in volume).. He was startin 2 take less n less btl n get more tired so i called the pead who uped his meds.. now 2day he's alot more alert n not so breathless, the problem we have now is that he's not remotely interested in his btl at all.. he seems 2b hungry but wen we offer the btl he plays around with the teat in his mouth.. Do u think that he could b 4getting how 2 suckle?? would u tell anyone or just wait until he's had his op n tackle it then??? lots of love 1 stressed Tina X

Gemma was infritrini and it used to fill her up really quick plus she got so tired drinking it. I just used to give it to her whenever I thought she was hungry so she was getting it little and often. At least Lewis is being topped up by the tube. With him HOPEFULLY soon having his op and the fact he is getting milk via tube feeding I think I would just leave it. Maybe try giving it to him little and often rather than every 3 hours. Hope I havent waffled too much. lol. xxxx Love Debbie and Gemma xx

hi tina, i would say the same as debs and offer little and often, we had the same with charlie, but having his meds increased did help alot, he had more energy to suckle ,but when he wasn't interested i just waited till he was screaming then he would take little amounts,i also found another way was once he had enough milk i wouldn't let him have anymore for exactly 4 hours, and that helped too, lots of luck hun, hopefully you won't have to wait too long lots of love n hugs shell, charlie and jasmin xxxxxxxxxx

It was the same with Holly. She kids of lost the will to suck, like she couldn't be bothered cus she knew she would get fed anyway.
Does he have a dummy??? If he does give him that as often as you can, and if not get one. It will help to keep that sucking reflex going.
Holly ended up on just tube feeds, she ended up with a cold and totally knocked her off her feeds and we were never able to get her back onto bottles, but we did kick her ass when it came to weaning.
Are you using fast flow teats??? The less work he has to do to get the milk the better, you could even make the hole larger with a sterile needle.....
Good luck hun, I know how frustrating it is XXX

Grace used to fall asleep after about an ounce, it was torture, I would have to sit for maybe an hour and a half 2 hours just to get about 4 ozs in her. Wait till you see the improvement after his surgery it is quite amazing !!!!!!

Cameron suffered from a poor suck as well, Brian and I were just talking about that the other night, how you would be there for an hour and a half keeping him awake to get food in him. I used to panic as he was bottle feed as well and it said discard after an hour!!!! A dummy did help with his suck

cory had hardly any suck when he was born and i had to hold a finger under his chin whilst he was feeding he would take very little and the sweat would pour out of him so the tube was used to let him rest..they encouraged the dummy to help keep and improve his suck....he was on infatrini for his first year...

George had trouble feeding from the very beginning and when he was in scbu they said to give him a dummy while he was having a tube feed so he could learn to associate sucking and getting a full tummy. Also when we got home we had to get fast flow teats as he didn't have the strength to suck the newborn ones. Another tip they told us was not to cuddle him to feed him but hold him out - sitting on your knee facing you, he used to get too comfy being cuddled and just go to sleep. Also when he was in scbu they were very strict about feeding him every 3 hours but he never seemed to be hungry so would hardly take any milk himself and end up being tube fed. We felt like we'd be there forever trying to get him off the tube but an older nurse said to try feeding on demand so they let us do that for a day and he was much better, we came home a couple of days later. Hope this helps but you will notice such a difference in him after his op xxx
