Hi everyone
probably a stuid question but here goes. Lucy eats "slop" and is really enjoying it, although it takes ages. When do I start introducing finger food, my concern is that she cannot sit up unaided as yet and sits in her bouncer for the sloppyfood?? she has been watching me like a hawk when I eat, so I think she may be ready to try. I think i've been sub-conciously putting off trying as i have bad memories of this stage with my son, he used to gag and choke and i became a nervous wreck!!

Hi, George was about 7 months when he started with finger food. He was like lucy and always sat in his bouncer for mealtimes but he had a 'bumbo' seat which I sat him in for his finger foods. The first thing I gave him was little soldiers of toast without the crusts on, he loved it, i don;t think he really ate much of it though to begin with just sucked it. I was like you and worried about him choking and gagging and tbh I still do get worried when he has something new. Hope this helps xx

Hi, Henri is just getting the hang of finger foods, as soon as we sit him in the high chair he sticks his hands in the air and wants us to spoon feed him, would make life eaiser for us if he did use his hands.

Thanks for the advice, I have a bebepod chair, which is similar to a bumbo, but she won't hold her hear up properly, she can do it but not for long enough to eat. OT are meant to be seeing us to see what they can adapt for seating at mealtimes. I think i will try in the next couple of weeks when my hubby is about x

Caleb always loved finger food (is eating his toast for brekkie as I type) and I think he helped himself before we ever gave him any finger food. I seem to remember him nicking a pizza crust when he was about 5 months before we even weaned him! soft steamed or boiled veg is good - cauliflower, carrots things like that.

I've wondered the same thing Karen. Jasmine really enjoys her solids but her hand eye co-ordination isn't great, for example she will take her dummy out but then can't work out how to get it back in. She'll eat anything if you put it in her mouth for her! lol
