Hi, just got a letter for a hearing test for Caleb on May 16th - wasn't told that would be happening at all??!! He passed the newborn ones - is this standadrd? Do all babies have it or is it a "special needs" type thing? Blimey I'm rubbish at all this - mind you at least SOMETHING is happening - nice to know we've not been left off all the lists... still heard nothing from the child development people no matter how much I badger them!

Leo has had his hearing tested too even though he passed the newborn test, so its just routine, no need to worry.

Yeah, same here, Brodie passed newborn test but is still checked every year. I think its beacause they like to keep an eye out for glue ear and things like that x x

The docs have tried to test Lucy 5 times now and she won't play ball. We now have to go to Edinburgh to have more detailed tests done. I don't think there is a problem but they can't prove on paper that she can hear so she has to be investigated - just another appointment to add to the list. I quite liked going to the Borders General, they have a dancing rabbit and cow they use during the test, Lucy thought they were great - not what the docs wanted at all!!!

Hi. George passed his hearing tests that were done in neo natal at a few days old. Then failed test at 8 months so was referred to consultant for another test which he also failed. He's now having a test done while he's asleep which is booked for 16th May. They've said he's got glue ear but his level of hearing is lower than what is normal for glue ear. I'm not too worried as I know he can hear (he recognises the sound of skip packets now and gets all excited), i just don't think he could be bothered with the tests. When we were with the consultant he kept blowing raspberries and then yawned - very funny. Hope that helps you x

hi there charlie passed his neonatal and newborn tests , but they decided at 1 that he was deaf on one side (cant remember which) and promptly fitted him with hearing aides which as you can guess they lasted bout 2 seconds, we do think he hears pretty well he understands everything you say to him and can do instructions on command but the ENT specialist thinks he has just learned these off by heart or he picks up our tones in our voices, anyway he is going to have grommets in on23rd may so we will see but i have never been concerned with his hearing xxxxxxx

Cameron passed newborn but failed test at 1 year. They reckoned it was glue ear because of small ENT area. So they took out his adenoids and put in grommets. So far so good but we're waiting for appointment to test hearing again

Aaron passed his newborn test and failed all the rest until his last one which he passed with flying colours!!! They just like to keep an eye on their hearing as Down's Children are more susceptible to glue ear and stuff because their tubes are narrower.
