We are down at Yorkhill on April 16th for Aaron's check up. They are confident that his ASD is closing up, but they couldn't get a good look during his ECG cos he was wriggling too much. They suspect a PDA too, but will know more this time - providing the boy co-operates......

His appointment has now been and gone and we are really pleased with how it went, but also a little confused.... Last year we were told that they would close his PDA, but at this appointment we were told that since they can't hear it then they will just leave it. Can anybody help me here? ? The specialist seemed pleased with him otherwise and we don't have to go back for another year. They didn't do an ECG yesterday as he wasn't sitting still and generally being Aaron!!!!! They will have to do one next year as they want to see if his ASD has closed, as they will want to do the surgery before he goes to school, which isn't for another 2 years!! Sorry for the essay here, but had to let you all know how he is doing!!!!!!!! Lynne x

Hi Lynne, glad the appointment went ok. I'm no expert but i think its quite normal to leave things if they can't hear a murmer or anything as we had a similar experience with Brodie. In the begining no one could ever hear his PDA when listening to his chest, although they new it was there from the ultra sounds they had done. They left it as it was and just monitored it until he was about 18months old, but then they started to pick it up when listening to his chest so decided to operate just before he was 2. I suppose as long as they're fit and healthy and its not bothering them they don't see the need to put them through an operation. x x

Hi, glad your're happy after your appointment, Lisa has PDA, and we're leaving it for the moment, as the doc can't hear it anymore, might have to do something in the future, not sure at the mo though.
