Hi Everyone, We are just in from Graces first OT appointment, I wasn't going to bring her with her just being over her op but was afraid it might take months for another appointment.
Really y glad we went now, she thinks Grace is just marvelous, commented on her muscle tone and head control by saying they were excellent and that it was obvious we had been working hard with her !!!! Yi-pee
She couldn't believe that Grace is sitting very well with very little support and thinks she will be sitting on her own very soon, She has ordered Grace a little corner support seat which comes with a tray for setting her toys onto to encourage her to lift her own toys etc.
Am really chuffed and so glad that we went, she will review Grace again in 3 months at which time she thinks a high chair will be the next step for Grace !!!
Shirley xx

That's so good to hear - Shirley, when did you get referred to the OT? We haven't seen a physio or heard anything about seeing one or an OT. Rachel is not quite 5 months.

Hi Shirley
Sounds like little Grace is doing really well, I bet you're really proud of her. From what you've said it is largely down to your hard work and encouragement, you'll have to let me know nearer Jasmine's arrival whether you have any tips for encouraging muscle tone development. Do you get guidance on what to do to assist Grace's development, such as a Health Worker or Physio. Sorry for the questions but obviously this is all new to me and it's good to hear of other people's experiences.

From Grace came home from hospital at 3 weeks old we had a physio out 2 days later, she comes to see Grace inour home every 4 weeks and gives me tips and ideas on encouraging head control at first, then things like sitting, hands together , rolling. All our refferals were completed by Graces Paed when she was one week old. So it has taken 6 months for the OT to get involved. We have also has a speech therapist from Grace was about 5 weeks, she has been great for advise on feeding and has also been taking a makaton class for around 6 families which is held once a week.
So far we have been really lucky with all the services and I really cant complain. I do know that it can be a matter of what area you are in as there were people at the new parents weekend who only live about 15 miles from us but unfortunatley fall into another trust and they have had a nightmare of a time trying to get these things sorted out

Aww thats great news for you, especially after all Grace has been through recently. I love the new photo's of Grace, she looks gorgeous. It sounds like the medical team etc are very good in your area, we only get to see the physio and O.T. at the cdc on a Friday, but then they're not always there which is a bit annoying. We haven't seen the physio since the end of March! Saying that though she did arrange a corner seat for George which is great. I bought a door bouncer for him yesterday but he just flopped forward, don't think the support at the front came up high enough. What make is the one Grace has got, she looks really comfy in hers on the photo xx

Caleb has a cool tigger door bouncer that supports him nicely - I think it came from argos. Shirley I am so impressed with the help and support you've had!! That's just brilliant - I'm actually tempted to move near you just to get the help for Caleb!!!
