hi everyone
i found out earlier in the week that charlie's statement has only given him 25 hours of one to one support when he goes to school in september, so i have been speaking to school and his ed pyshc who both agree with me that he needs full time which is 32.5 hours weekly, so i have had to appeal and the appeal is this morning at 9 am, and i have to give them my arguements and reasons for the increase, i dont find out the results of the appeal for 2 weeks, if we dont win the school wont be able to fund the extra hours so i really dont know what we will do. has anyone here had to appeal ? anyway i will let you know how things go lots of love shell xxxxxxxxx

Hi Shell, We're going through statementing with Harry and we should hear in the next few weeks about him. Another mum suggested I stress that Harry would need 1 to 1 all the time he is in his mainstream setting on safety grounds as much as anything, safety for him as he is still so little and quite vulnerable in a big class. You prob won't see this before your meeting so I hope it went ok. Sending big hugs and hope it goes/went ok. Love Lisa & Harrison xxxxxx P.S. Hopefully as the school are supporting you in this you should be able to get it sorted.

well it's in the hands of the panel now, we stressed the main issues mainly safety and communication, but the little man is still in nappies so that was another issue .the school fully support us though which is good, we will just have 2 wait 2 weeks for the outcome i think they said straight after half term so fingers crossed xxxxxxxxx

Good luck with everything. I hope you manage to get what you want.
Don't know what help Brodie will get when he starts school in Sept. We think he needs a full time helper. Lets keep our fingers crossed for all the little ones starting school. xx

Good luck to you - as an infant teacher, my advice to you is FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!! It seems (from my experience) that you just have to make sure you are heard, as its so easy to slip through the net... it shouldnt be that way I know... and is so different from school to school. Stay strong - you know whats best!! xxx

Fingers-crossed for you & Charlie, at least you won't have to wait too long to hear and great that the school are supportive too It looks like Harry will be doing a split between a special school and mainstream with 1 to 1 for the whole of his time in mainstream, we expect to hear soon. Will be glad when it's finally sorted as it seems to have been a long process! xx

I was thinking about you and Charlie earlier today wondering if you had heard, sorry to hear it's not good news. Do you have any of the teachers who can support you in helping to push your case? If the school agrees with you that Charlie needs full-time support where does that leave things, they should agree from a safety aspect.
We've had Harry's proposed statement now and he's going to stay in the nursery at his mainstream school for now (with full-time 1 to 1) and he's going to a special school for the rest of the week where the ratio of staff to children is really high. I've found this whole process really stressful so I do feel for you, the last thing you need is for it to be a battle.
I'd ask the school if they can support you and argue Charlie's case too. Have you got any support from Charlie's health visitor or any other 'professionals'? Maybe the panel don't understand enough about Charlie's case and someone who knows Charlie's medical history and all the challenges he has had should put that across to them.
Good luck Shell, I feel really cross for you too, you shouldn't have to fight for what Charlie needs. Let us know how it goes. Take care xxxx

Hi Shell, Just had a quick thought, do you know if your local MP is any good? I've had to contact mine a couple of times about things and I've found sometimes it can be the best way to get people to actually listen to what us parents are saying. If the Ed Psych + Paed + School are supporting you then those people on the panel must be incompetent - either that or they are just trying to push their luck hoping that you will back down.
Sending you lots of support and big hugs of energising vibes as it can be exhausting sometimes when you have to battle to get what's right. Love Lisa & Harrison xxxx

hi i spoke to the education officer this morning and their response was that they expect the school to make a contribution !,but they said if i write a letter of appeal and include statements from professionals that are involved with charlie he is sure it will be increased, and he said if the school cant contribute then he does'nt think it will be a problem to come to some sort of compromise wiv the school and see if they could both meet halfway, result !he assured me that there was no way charlie would be left alone for the 7.5 hours he is not yet funded for ,so i am feeling alot happier now and have stopped screaming at everyone and everything in site lol. thank you all so much and i hope you dont have any rpoblems with your little ones statementing. love shell, charlie and jasmin xxxxxxxxx

Hi Shell,
Did you get the results of the appeal? (sorrry my heads like mush didnt read full thead) Aaliyah was given 32.5 hrs in nursery and this hasnt changed since.I dont understand how when people make these decisions they can be soo varried as Charlie has been at lot poorlier than Aaliyah. When Aaliyah started nursery she didnt have any speech or know any makaton and needed nappies changing( shes still in pull ups but will go for a wee at school....when she wants!!!) They should also take into account that Charlie (Aaliyah aswell) will need help getting around as there's going to be building work etc with the new school. Aaliyah needs cover at dinner because of her eating and the fact she has sometimes choked (albeit at home....think she likes to scare me!!) and i wouldnt trust Aaliyah not to wander off out of school grounds if she didnt have a one 2 one watching her. Hope you've heard back and have got the full time hours hun.

I'm glad your chat with the education officer has reassured you. Unfortunately it's not surprising I guess that as always it comes down to budgets, it sounds like they are just trying to juggle the cost. Hope it's all sorted out very soon for you and that Charlie can start school with everything in place that he needs. xxx

I can't believe you've had to go through all this its ridiculous.
I'm not surprised you've been angry. I would be on there case everyday.
I've got all this to come and i'm no pushover and by the sounds of it neither are you. I'm still shocked at this maybe they have glue ear or they clearly weren't listening to you.

Hiya Shell, sorry I'm so late with my reply, haven't been on much lately. Just wanted to say that I hope things get sorted and you get the reassurance you need that Charlie will be well cared for. I am sure you are anxious anyway about him starting school for the first time you definitely don't need to be having the extra worry of whether he is going to be left to his own devices. Let us know how the letter to the council goes. x
