Hi, Connor is nine now, he attends a special school each weekday morning and mainstream each arternoon. He is collected each morning by a minibus which then collects other children from various parts of the area we live in. So last wednesday i put Connor on the bus at 8.22am the aide takes him to the last but one seat at the back of the bus belts him in and off they set , at 10am i take a phone call from the a lady who`s voice i didn`t recognise asking if Connor was in scool that day i replied yes she said thankyou was about to say goodbye when i asked whom i was speaking to she proceeded to tell me she was the head of the special school and that Connor had not reached school that day she said she would ring back and hung up i then rang my partner at work told him to get home fast as Connor was missing i then rang the school back to be told he was still missing and the police were been called . i made my way to school picking partner up on route when we got there the school was teaming with police , we were told the only explanation for him been missing was he must have somehow got off the bus at one of the other stops and there were three police forces from around our local area out searching for him and they were in the process of launching a police helicopter . i nearly passed out we were living every parents worst nightmare. After about 20 minutes Connor was found still strapped in his seat on the bus which was now parked in a bus depot some 15 minutes from the school. the driver and the aide have been suspended pending a hearing which was supposed to be today but has been cancelled as they are both on holiday it will be held next week now . any advice as to what i should do . thanks . Back to top

Cant also believe that the driver and aide have buggered off on holiday after all this. MASSSIVE hugs to Connor (and you) xxxx

That is awful. They should be strung up and not let near children ever again, how can they let that happen. Was Connor ok when you got to him. Love to you all. Debbie and Gemma xx

OMG!!! This is awful, you must have been absolutely frantic and I can't imagine how angry you must be. Maybe it would help if you write down all your questions so that you can get some answers when you go to the hearing, or if this is too long to wait then ask the school to give you some answers. I think I'd find it helpful to write everything down beforehand because faced with the school I'd be so angry and upset with them I'd probably lose the plot completely! Have the police spoken to you at all? I'm just wondering if the driver and aide will be charged with anything - they were responsible for the safety of Connor and it's neglect to have just abandoned him, I agree with Debbie they should not be allowed to work with children again.
Sending you and Connor lots of love and big hugs, Love Lisa & Harrison xxx

OMG thats awful. Was he ok?? i have tears in my eyes, the poor wee man, is there no aid at the school for when he gets off the bus?
I would have went mad at the driver and aid, damn right they should have been suspended.
I would question there practices, what protocols are in place? Every school, nursery, taxi service has them, i'm sick of hearing about all the protocols they have to adhere to. so that would be my starting point.
Good luck and if I think of anything i'll post again

OMG thats is so terrible. You must have been out of your mind with worry and poor Connor must have been wondering what was going on, I feel really sad thinking of him sitting on the bus by himself. Have you had any contact or appology off the driver or the aid? I can't understand how it could of happened, do they not take down names as they children get on the bus and check them again as they get off? They must have been too busy thinking about their holidays. I think you should take this as far as you can, it should never have happened. Good luck with it all and I hope you are all ok after your ordeal xxxx

Awww Carol hun, that's disgraceful. How long was poor Connor sat on that bus on his own for? It makes me feel sick thinking about him just sat there strapped in on his own. I bet you and your other half were out of your minds with worry. I'd be wanting to know what the company are going to do to ensure their procedures don't allow anything like that to happen again, surely they must have some kind of register, they should be ticking names on a list as kids get on and then again when they get off. The schools should also know which pupils they are expecting off the bus, could they not be ensuring that they meet the bus and check who gets off it on arrival? I'd be absolutely furious, my god I could rant on about it for ages! What would have happened if that teacher hadn't called you? Grrrrr!
