Hi having only registered yesterday I would like to tell you about our wonderful son Thomas. Thomas is our Down's son(12 years) and Billy (10 years). our other children are grown up and fled the nest. Thomas has always had hearing problems and after many operations and a trial period with a conduction aid he has now been offered a bone anchored hearing aid at Birmingham childrens hospital. we have our first appointment on 14th june. Has anyone any advice for us. we are quite excited for him. we live in Shrewsbury.

Thanks for the welcomes. I have to get used to how the site works. Off to birmingham with Thomas on Thurs. 14th for first assessment on B.A.H.A. (bone anchored hearing aid). We don't know what Thomas understands at the moment but we have met another little boy who already has the aid and is doing brilliant. Watch this space.

Welcome, I'm Brodies nan, I expect you've seen him on this site. I really hope all goes well with Thomas's hearing aid. I know what a big difference hearing can make as my hearing is very poor and I now wear hearing aids in both ears, it makes such a difference to my quality of life. I will be thinking of him. xx

Thomas's appointment went well. He meets all the criteria for a Bone anchored hearing aid. We are now waiting for his surgical review. this we were told will be to discuss whether he will get one or two aids. This is all very exciting. We just wish this had been offered before,he seems to have slipped through the net. Claire where abouts in Shrewsbury are you from?. We are in Bayston Hill.
