Rob and i were talking the other week about Saul going to nursery and in a few years Tai will go to nursery and i'll be able to find a job. I hated working on checkouts at Asda so i wouldn't want to do anything like that again, but obviously it would have to fit around school holidays to.
Then i thought about the indoor play areas Saul loves, and how the different ones we've seen have good and bad points, such as one has an under 5's area almost the same as the older area but on a smaller scale, and the other just has a small ball pool and plastic play house for under 5's. So depending on teh age of teh child and their ability you have to choose which is better to go to, but paretns are to big to follow the kids around the under 5's area (not so good when you want to go home and they'd rather stay).
But what struck me most was how none of them are easily accessable to disabled children, they all rely on skills it takes some disabilities longer to accomplish and none are accesable to wheelchair users, or really consider them at all.
Do you think it would be possible to design an in door play area, that parents can easily access to help disabled children manouver (sp), also with a kind of indoor sensory garden for wheel chair bound children, and a sensory room. Then there could be areas around the play area that get the children to use different muscles and gain an understanding about how things work, maybe makaton would allow the use of their signs so parents and children could learn while they play, then possibly we could use Mr Tumble pictures too.
It could make a useful place for disabled childrens centres to come and hold talks, and possibly group therapy sessions.
look forward to hearing your ideas when i pop on next

- Would it be something you would take your child too?
- It wouldn't be just for disabled so would you take a 'typical' child to play in that environment (i know how the typical kids love the sensory rooms too)?
- Do you think the council would like the idea and be able to provide some where to place a structure like that, and possibly fund it? I'm sure i'd be able to find a grant from somewhere to fund it, if people took to the idea
