Hello Everyone
I am Debbie Mum to Cameron who is my youngest (at the moment as am expecting son number 3) I was unaware during my pregnancy that Cameron had Downs and nothing was picked up in the many scans i had including the nuchal and 2 anomaly scans and yet when he was born on the 12th August 2004 the baby doctor while checking him out had a worried look on his face and rushed off to get another doctor making some excuse about he thought baby had a clicky hip, i knew there was more to it and i had a terrible feeling something was very wrong! after another 2 doctors looked at Cameron they told me that they thought he had Downs Syndrome and they wanted to take blood from him to do the test. 7 days later the results were back and we had the hard job of coming to terms with the news and all the emotions that came with it. the first few weeks were a whirlwind of tests including a chest x-ray, echocardiogram and an ECG also lots of blood was taken poor baby was like a pin cushion. but fortuately he was given the all clear as far as his heart was concerned. He does have hypothyroidism and hypotonia but i feel very lucky that this is all he suffers with. He is a very happy, cheeky and mischievious little boy. he still isn't walking although he is spending more time on his feet and cruises around the furniture quite a lot, he doesn't talk although he makes lots of noise and he has started to use a couple of makaton signs. He attends a special needs playgroup which are fantastic and has 4 sessions a week at the moment. he has portage, physio and speech and language therapy. we get middle rate care allowance from DLA and high rate mobility of which we are getting a car with in 2 or 3 months. I also claim carers for him. Cameron is on 50mcg Levothyroxine everyday for his thyroid.
hope to get to know you all well
Love Debbie xxx
