Well, I'll be quite quick with it all as i'm no good at writing....
Well, my waters went unexpectidly (sp) at 33 weeks, just as I was about to take Lisa for her speech an language session, luckily this is just next to the hospital, so didnt take long to get there!
Anyway, after being kept in over night, and given 2 steroid injections (which hurt!) I was allowed home, had to be monitored twice a week and keep an eye on my temp, and take antibiotics.
I was told that if nothing happened I would be induced at 37 weeks, on the 31st July.
Couldn't really go out much as my waters kept going after that, so I was really down, I hate being stuck in all the time, so I would just go out in the car with a pampers change mat under my bum lol!
Managed to get to 35+2, when I started getting tightenings, they didn't hurt but they were more than braxton hicks. I was getting them every 6 mins. I phoned my m/w, who came out to see me. I was only 1cm dialated and Rhys was on 3/5 engaged. She told me to ring her again if things got any worse. They didn't and I managed to get a full nights sleep!I wasn't too worried, as the pain wasn't bad, and the m/w seemed happy with his trace.
I woke the next morning and was still getting the tightenings every 6 moins but they weren't any worse, so I decided I would go for some lunch with my friend around they corner at the local pub. By this time I didn't care if my waters went again, I was soo bored!
I noticed that Rhys wasn't moving around much, he used to always be moving, especially if I poked him, but even that wasn't making him shift.
I went for my lunch, and bought a glass of coke...this would do the trick, (I was starting to get a little worried by now)
Well it got him hicupping, so I thought that's ok and felt a lot better. But when I got home, something just told me to ring the Labour ward, I was told he must have 10 movements a day, and hicups aren't included.
Thet told me to pop over and get a trace done.
So I drove myself over to the hospital, (still getting these minor contractions) Got on the the monitor at about 3pm.
The trace didn't look good...everytime I would get one of these weak contractions, his heart rate was dropping.
They examined me, and noticed he was now lying tansverse. Little bugger he had been on his way to be engaged the night before, and he'd decided to move!!
They then proceeded to ask me when I had last eaten...which was about 12. 'Right', they said, 'we can get you up to theatre now then'
Thet went on to say, that he was happy in there and they needed to get him out, as he was transverse, plus I was labouring, they had to get him out by c/section asap.
Even if he wasn't transverse, I think I would have had to have a section because of his heart rate dipping.
I rang Asa, and got him to come straight over.
I have never been soo scared in all of my life!
The thought of having to have a spinal block was more scary than the operation itself!
I behaved like a complete wimp!! Crying and shaking lol, (I can laugh about it now!)
It was all happening so quick, as soon as Asa got there, he was made to put on some other clothes (aww, he looked quite good lol especially the white wellies lol)
Anyway, down in theatre things were real scary, the staff were excellent, they got me through it. It wasn't half as bad as I thought it would be.
At 3.58pm baby Rhys was born weighing 5lbs 15oz.
I had a quick cuddle then he was whisked of to scbu.
It was all so surreal, I'd only gone to the hospital to get montitered, then next thing I know I had been poked and prodded, had a major operation, and had my son!
That first night was awful, not being able to see my baby. I had to wait till I was strong enough to get in a wheel chair before I could. They bought a photo in of him for me and I burst out crying, he was soo beautiful, and he had some bruises on him where he was difficult to get out.
I think it was 2 days before I saw him, and he was in a light box for his jaundice and had tubes with air and a drip. My poor lil boy, he was still gorgeous though.
Things were looking looking a bit bad at the very beginning, but he soon got better and better....came out of the light box, went into a billy bed instead (see pic) drip came out, was put onto tube feeding for a few days, and soon enough in a proper cot, with just me feeding him.
I had my own room for the first two days, which I hated, trhen got moved onto the scbu ward, and I felt a lot better. The staff were all really nice.
Well after 11 days we were allowed home, he is still jaundice, so we have to take him back when he is 3 weeks old, but I'm so happy to be home!
Billy bed.....
Cutie....
Whilst I was in hospital, my nephew was born a few days later (Asa's brother), my next door neighbour had her baby, another of my friends had their baby.
I'll leave you with that, I have missed out loads, but my wee hands are tired and Rhys will want feeding soon lol!
