Jasmine went for her first physio apt this week and now I know what a bad mother I am. I've been thinking that she's too young for toys yet but the physio got out lots of toys ans her face lit up and she was babbling away, smiling, trying to giggle (it's more like a cough at the mo). Anyway, they were extremely pleased with her head controo and overall strength, she loved the rolly pollys. My early New Years resolution is to play with my baby more.... guess what Santas bringing her.

I used to lay Caleb on a piece of crinkly paper to make him wriggle as he liked the noise! He's surrounded by toys right now but what is he playing with..... his empty breakfast bowl! Great that Jasmine can get toys for Christmas - I wouldn't say you were too late, just in time in fact!

I done the same as max, with the crinky paper, grace just loved it and as well as loving it it makes them move more which is good for the muscles. Wait a couple of months and your house will be absolutey covered in toys, we were a clutter free house until madame grace came along !!

The best toy Jasmine will ever have is you, at the end of the day Mum who interacts with her every waking hour( well as much as we can) is going to be more stimulating than any toy & I'm a firm believer that children do need time just to explore their enviroment , toys, paper etc without us interefering -as I type Rachel is sitting near me fiddling with a little crinkly elephant & chattering away to it. Your doing great & what fun you'll have shopping for toys.

Awww don;t give yourself a hard time. Like the others have said babies will find all sorts of things to entertain themselves. George had a present from Santa today at cdc - it was a lovely book - but he was more interested in ripping the wrapping paper into little pieces and trying to eat them. At home when he's in his high chair he throws any toys I give him onto the floor but if I give him a wooden spoon he'll sit for ages banging away, lol. So I wouldn;t worry Jasmine will be fine, and you'll both have so much fun at christmas opening all her pressies xx

i agree with the rest.. joshua is 2 and his favourite thing is bottles!! he will get a pop bottle, any size.. full or empty and bat it around the room, crawling after it! and he has a room FULL of toys! he will go around the room and play with them, but any bottle and he gets distracted easily with it and it will keep him amused for ages! when joshua was really small adam's dad used to give him crisp wrappers to play with in the car! another good thing is helium balloons! when josh was smaler we would lay him on his front and put a helium balloon in front of him.. he could see the string so would follow it up and he would also grab the string and pull at it to try and get the balloon (obviously supervised!)
in tesco they have bells on a velcro strap...... about £1?! they are in a box (on the shelf) titled 'musical instruments' they have different ones mixed up in the box. adam and i got joshy 2 sets of bells for his birthday.. they fit nicely around his wrist/ankle and they keep him amused for ages!
i actually felt like you do now.. it is natural.. as with all new parents they tend to be a bit puzzled over what to play with your baby... it wasnt until josh had portage that i feel he started to really develop in leaps and bounds. whenportage came along they showed us how a simple game can encourage development. whenever i get any toys now - be it for joshua or any other baby i look for the developmental benefits on the box before i buy it! before i had joshua i didnt really have a clue and i would get any toy as a present (or if i was at a loss i would take my cousins daugher- who was the only baby/child for a while - for a makeover and photo in girl heaven and then take her for a maccyds!!)
