Well cameron is finally a big brother (and yet he is so small!)
Monday 10th September late afternoon i stated getting niggly moderate contractions which were about 3 minutes apart. Rang hospital and they told me to go straight in as the contractions were so close together.
Arrived at the hospital at about 8pm and no room on labour ward so was transfered to anti-natal and examined. I was 3cms so MW did a membrane sweep! wow was that painful!!! was told to take a walk to speed things up so me and DH went for a walk round the hospital ground, still contracting every 3 minutes. got back to the ward about 9pm then i went for a bath, my back was begining to really ache at this time.
arrived back to the ward after bath at 9.30pm and they strapped me to a monitor, they kept checking on me and saying that my contractions weren't strong enough to do anything even though i kept telling them that it was getting very intense.
About 10.30 a doctor came to put a line in which he had 4 attempts at and kept bursting my veins then on the last one he thought he got it in (tell you about that one in a minute!) The contractions were really really strong and i was making a lot of noise plus labour was hurting my back so MW got me some portable gas and air.
at 10.55pm the MW examined me not expecting much i think and was shocked to see i was 7 - 8cms dialated, then she began to panic saying i needed to be on the Central Delivery suite. at 11pm I was wheeled to Labour ward.
I had to cope for at least 4 contractions without gas and air as they didn't have a sterile mouthpiece and had to go and look for one, meanwhile my back was getting the brunt of the contractions. finally they came back with the mouthpiece and i got onto the bed.
thought i felt my waters go put my hand down and was covered in blood and lots of it, panicked a lot and called the MW over she said it was a show although i have had 4 other labours and never had that happen before. they put me on a monitor and baby's heartbeat was racing at 195bpm they said he was tachicardic! (sp) they put me on a drip to get fluids to baby quickly.
A few minutes later my waters broke and kieron was 9 seconds behind, the pain was excrusicating as he came out face up so had travelled down the birth canal facing the wrong way with the back of his head against my spine. she had to reposition him as he was at an odd angle before his body could be born.
Finally at 11.34pm he was born looking very purple, they placed him on my chest but he didn't seem to be breathing properly and then he gasped and spurted out bloody water. they whisked him off and gave him oxygen soon he was wailing and had pinked up.
I suspect that maybe my placenta had started to seperate hence the blood and him being so distressed? anyway she thought he looked like he weighed 7Ibs and was surprised to see he actually weighed 8Ibs 1oz. and measures 53cms.
they took a cord sample as i am O rh neg and then i found out later they wrote the wrong DOB on the sample so he had to have blood taken the next day. He has B Positive blood so i had to have an anti-d injection. They did his baby examination which scared the hell out of me, i suppose because memories of Camerons came flooding back but all was well and he passed his hearing test. The doctors who did his baby check forgot to write anything down before she went home so i had to take Kieron back in on the Wednesday for another check and to recieve my anti - d injection.
anyway he is now nearly 2 weeks old and had gone down to 7Ibs 12ozs and back up to 8Ibs 2ozs. he was a bit of a problem to get to feed at first only taking 1 -2 ozs per feed and having a feed every 3 hours but now he is on 3 -4 feeds every 4 hours.
this is his website and montage weblinks if you would like to take a look.
