Since Thomas has had his op all he's done is feed! He's suddenly massive and never satisfied!! He's even taken to waking in the night again for milk (yawn) and he's taking around 900+ mls per day of SMA high energy!! I know this is a good thing but I think he needs more than just milk. I've been trying him with a few spoonfuls of fruit or veg puree every day for the past week or so but he's just not interested . When Daniel was this age (Thomas is 18 weeks) he was on 2 full jars of food a day plus milk and really loved his food. Thomas won't even open his mouth for it! Just wanted other mums opinion really about what I should do? Should I leave him for a few more weeks and try again or should I persevere? I'm not sure if Thomas' Downs is affecting this or not? Any advice/experiences with this anyone??

Woohoo go thomas, I would persevere, try not to think about the downs, I know its hard but there is such a wide spectrum. Daniel may have been eating that but every child is different.
I used to introduce a few spoonfuls of puree about 1 1/2 hours before a feed, so "the hamster" wasn't to hungry and was more interested. I also found the best time was before tea time feed.
Good luck

Just persevere hunni. Holly was such a fickle feeder and I used to get so stressed about it... GRRR. But I just made it part of her daily routine that she has to have a little bit of solid before we started her milk. It did take her a little while to get the hang of it, (I mean 9 bloody months... LOL) but through patience and consistancy she now eats like a piggy.
Don't be worried though if he wants less milk. Or even don't be afriad to reduce it a little yourself to try and make him that little bit hungrier and more interested in food.

Hi Just persivere. William was a nightmare with solids, we even ended up seeing the nutritionist at the hostpital but she said the body ends up craving what it lacks so he will be fine. Speeh therapy said it wasn't a problem with his mouth, he just prefered milk and was fussy. He was about 18mths before he started eating "normally" but he is still fussy unless it is bolognaise or garlicy / mildly spicy food.

I'm so glad you asked that question Vickia! Daniel is exactly the same - he 's having about 1000ml a day so we ve just changed to the SMA high calorie stuff as he was taking more than a bottle each feed. He doesn't wake in the night though... My health visitor said wait till about 6 months before trying to wean, but I might start earlier in case it takes him longer to master (he's 4 half months) Help - it seems I just get one thing sorted then there's something else to do!!!
How's it going with you and Thomas?

I first started Holly on baby rice at 12 weeks. She didn't really need it food wise, more for the practice really.
I have a great saying for times like this...

The HV came out on Friday and she's advised me to stop trying to wean as this could make Thomas more prone to allergies. I know that this is not always true but I thought I would give him a break from trying to wean cos I don't want to upset him and make him scared of food! I'll try again next week and see how he gets on....
Thomas is doing really well now tho and was 13lbs 3oz on Friday. He's gained almost 2 lbs since leaving hospital a fortnight ago!! He's a right little fatty now! On the downside, the HV has had a look in Thomas' mouth and has confirmed that he is teething. He's really miserable at the minute and his cheeks are bright red, poor little thing! He's a bit off his milk today and won't settle. Ah the joys of parenthood....lol!

I'm really glad Thomas is doing well - must be such a relief. Good luck with teething - children look so cute with their front teeth!!
