We might be going to a weekend run jointly by the NDCS and DSA, it's for families who have children with ds & hearing loss. Just wondered if anyone had been to one of these or if anyone else on here would be going? It's in Ealing, London around March time.

Hiya, Just wanted to let you know we have just been to this weekend away which was run for families who have kiddies with DS and hearing loss and it was fab! I think it was the first one they have run as a joint weekend between the National Deaf Childrens Society and Down Syndrome Association. They said they plan to organise more in the future so if your little angel has hearing loss then it's worth going. Loads of really useful info and it was great meeting other families who have been going through the same experiences. Have been feeling a bit fed up with the endless appts and statementing process lately but have come home feeling much happier, sometimes it can be very therapeutic just to know you aren't the only one struggling with hearing aids!! lol. They had a young man there who has ds and works with the dsa talking about his life answering questions which was lovely too. Plus, last but not least, we got to stay in a hotel which meant I didn't have to cook, clean or wash clothes for a whole weekend!! xx

I came home with an info pack which I've just been reading through and there is going to be another 'weekend for families with a deaf child with down syndrome' in November in Kent. Shell, not sure where you live but if Kent isn't near you then you can always contact ndcs to see if there is going to be anything nearer to you. They arrange all sorts of events throughout the year. You can find out more info at www.ndcs.org.uk/whatson or you can call 0121 234 9820. xxxx

Michelle has Kimmy been to see a child psychiatrist yet it was him that got Jack an educational psychiatrist and in turn got us portage.
Get in touch with your health visitor and she may be able to help you.
In Derry we have a nursery specifically for children with special needs and it is here that the parents keep each other right with these things.
If you need any info PM me
