tina ,pda is a patent ductus arteriosis, charlie had one ,it is quite common in prem babies, it is a little valve that is very near to the heart that is supposed to close when a baby takes it's first breath, with prem babies it can take longer and on some babies it does'nt close ,,if it's closed on it's ownand no other heart problems open heart surgery is not needed, it's usually done through a small incision in the side of the chest , but if they need heart surgery it's usually closed at the same time hope that helps hun lots of luv shell xxxxxxxxxxx

Yep, Harrison had a PDA too, his was complicated because he had a narrowed aorta that needed repairing so they did the PDA closure at the same time xxx

Sorry Tantalizintina just spotted this message!! Rosanna had her PDA closed in March by way of cardiac catheter. They went in thru vein in groin to get to it and put in a little device to close the gap. She still has an ASD which will need surgery but they are hoping they can do that when she is a bit older as at only 8 months it would be major surgery. If they can wait until she is older and bigger they might be able to repair that via the vein in groin too (the device they would need is too big for her vein at the moment).
