Well, took Jasmine for a routine check up with the optometrist at the hospital a couple of weeks ago. Mainly because I mentioned her leaky tear ducts and wanted them checked. I was convinced that her eye sight was pretty good. Anyhow, after a thorough test she is apparently long sighted and needs glasses. I was given a prescription there and then... how am i going to get her to keep glasses on at this age? I'm also a little worried that getting her glasses may make her eyes lazy and ultimately worse.... the specialist said it was border line whether or not she needed them. Am not sure what to do really... went to the opticians and they said there won't be any small enough so I'll have to have custom made ones that tie behind her head. I just think it seems so young for glasses and I don't know whether to wait. Also, if you're long sighted, surely you only need glasses for close up work like reading etc, won't they distort her vision of things further away? What does everyone think.

Cameron was the exact same, the glasses will correct her lonsightedness, they probably said she was too longsighted.
Cameron has only had his glasses for 2/3 weeks and we're already on 2nd pair
It might be easier for you as shes so young. Also we sat with cameron and looked at loads of books and pics in photo albums and that seems to help.

Oh bless her! My Mum wore glasses from 6 months onwards apparently. She'll look GORGEOUS! Good luck in keeping them on though.... I think if I were in that situation I'd get them for looking at books and things.

Hiya Karen, they tested them by inserting drops which dilate the pupils then using different lenses and holding things up to see how her pupils reacted. Got a very precise perscription so it must be pretty accurate. Jasmine's referral was routine I think, her peadiatrician referred us. I hadn't mentioned any concerns other than leaky tear ducts so I assumed it was one of the many check ups connected with DS. You can apparently ask to have them checked tho which just identifies any problems early on and prevents things like squints and stigmatisms from developing.

Crikey thats young to get glasses. Everytime we take George for his eye tests they say he is longsighted but it is normal at his age and can correct itself so haven;t been offered glasses for that yet. He does have astigmatism in both eyes though which they are keeping an eye on (excuse the pun) lol, and say he may need glasses for that. Have they said if Jasmine needs to wear then all the time? She will look even cuter than she does already, we know some little twin girls who wear glasses and they've got 'little miss' ones with coloured arms, very cute xxx
