Just wondering if any one else has had respite through the 'direct payments' system? We've been granted 5 hours a week which is great but just feeling a little bit daunted by the whole process. We've found a carer who is really excited about offering the respite (she's Harry's key worker at his mainstream setting & fantastic with him), I'm taking Harry round to her house tomorrow so that he can get used to her home. The way it works is that social services pay money into an account which I set up, then I pay her the wages - in effect I'm acting as her employer so I have to do a contract and have insurance etc (which is the daunting part!). I am getting help from social services so hopefully once it's up-and-running it'll be ok but just thought I'd ask in case anyone else had experience of this? xxxx

lol @ Tina, I agree I'd pay someone to clean up the mess George makes when he;s eating xxx
Lisa, I didn;t know that you had to do all that - its meant to be respite time not added stress! I only know one person who has respite time, she gets a whole '2' hours a week but I think its through a charity and they go to her house to look after her little girl xxx

Lol xxx Yeah i agree Claire, it won't be worth doing if it turns out to be too much hassle. I've been told by another mum that once it's up-and-running it's fairly straight forward so I'm going to see how it goes. It means I will get some time to spend alone with Sam (he's fantastic with Harry but I do feel guilty sometimes that he misses out coz Harry gets so much attention). God forbid me & hubby may even get to spend some time together as well, lol. Will let you know how it goes over the coming months xxx
