HI allWe have a little girl called Louise who will be 1yr so soon, I cant believe the time has flown, she was born on 25th November 2007! We had IVF and we are a same sex couple, we were offered the pre-natal testing but had both decided that it would not make any difference to the outcome of the pregnancy so thought it was a waste, and only something else to worry about, so not needed. Louise was born after a very long 2day labour, and the paed checked her over at birth and handed her to my partner and said everything was fine. I had noted that her eyes where slanted but thought this could of just been due to the forceps or just her features as I used to get teased about my eyes at school, however about 3hrs later my partner commented to the midwife that Lous ears where floppy and this is when she said have you noticed anything else different about her, so I said her eyes and with that I clicked what she was thinking, then she stated that the dr had documented in my notes that Lou had features of Downs. This was a complete shock to us but we were very angry also with the dr who did not tell us, we enjoyed our time with our daughter and spent alot of time crying over the next few days, we had a few hrs with Lou with us after her birth but then she was taken to SCBU where she spent the next 6 days, and I spent most of my time there too. Hard to believe now how tiny she was back then, you wouldnt believe it now looking at her. Anyhow thats a little about her birth, she also has a AVSD which is 4mm so they are just monitoring it at the mo, and she is due to see the cardiloigist again in Feb/March time.We just feel so lucky and so blessed to have our little girl, she is the world to us and wouldnt change her for the world, cannot remember what we used to do with our time to be honest, she has a busier social life than we do!! Anyhow looking forward to getting to know people on the site!!Speak soonMaggiexx

Hi I m Debbie I have 4 children, Gemma is our youngest and has DS. She will be 3 in December. She had 2 lots of open heart surgery at 3 months old. We didnt know until after she was born she had DS and it came as a huge shock, but nearly 3 years is on she is the most amazing little girl you could ever meet and we are so proud of her, I couldnt imagine not having her in our lives now. xx

Hi Maggie, and welcome
It's us again! I haven't posted much on this site (still haunting Fertility Friends too much). Like you, we chose not to test and so only found out about Lizzie's DS when she was born. The paed in the delivery room told my DH first, as I was still being sewn up after my c/section, and he came over and broke the news to me. We found out a week later that she had a VSD and that was closed surgically at 5 months.
Have you got the birthday celebrations arranged yet? Only a couple of weeks until the big day! HOw is Lou coming on - is she sitting yet?
All the best Ruth and Lizzie xx
